How self-disciplined are you? * 2
    #25709783 -

Can you motivate yoursef to put yoursef to work and stick with it?

Apparently discipline is the #1 (or so I read) factor in success.  Not intelligence.  Just discpline.

The practice of training yourself to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience.

Does that definition resonate with you?  Do you give something your 100% even if you don't feel like it anymore?

Can you self-motivate??

Yes. Uber disciplined and it continues to pay off.

Very self disciplined. Near OCD on many things.

I think it has been great career wise.  Always on time, don't miss work, assignments are precise etc.

Its also helped my health, I don't miss days at the gym and keep a solid diet and sleep schedule.

How did you achieve such a high sense of discipline?

Self dicipline comes from having solid goals with dead lines.

Not sure what allows some people to maintain real goals, and other people to struggle with the concept of keeping serious goals.

Needing to achieve the goals directs your day to day life, like "do or die"

Not very. It's really something I should work on.

I'm hard working, but in other areas I lack pretty bad.
I do stay hella late and try to get as much done quickly before deadlines. I'm also very good at cnc programming so I help out anyone with questions. I'm one of the 3 full time engineers, the rest are interns, with me being 2nd in experience

I don't wake up on time, though, and I'm always 1-1.5 hours late. It has been an issue for a couple of years now and they bring it up every year during reviews, but I just can't get myself to get out of bed. I also don't carry myself in a professional manner. The dress code is casual, but I used to go a little too casual. And I don't self groom as much as I should just out of laziness.

Im pretty bad with discipline. Sometimes i feel like i dont have direction.

Ive grown a hate for doing construction work for helping my GF on this house over the years. I just hate it. Its like some kind of torture for me.

But if i really want something, i work for it, but if its too hard or if I have to force myself to do it, i usually just give up or attempt to give up.

It's possible to wire your brain the wrong way. You can wire it so that construction work is no longer torture but rather a fun challenge to create enjoyable results that you're either paid for (positive reenforcement) or you enjoy it yourself or enjoy that whoever enjoys it is happy with it due to your own effort. And construction will be more like leisure that pays. But you can accidentally wire it to associate it with pain and struggle (negative reenforcement)

You can wire your brain wrong for anything in life, such as self dicipline. Most brains aren't wired well. Mines not that good either, but I've been working on it consiously for a while so I manage to get ahead in work pretty well.

Imagine Elon Musk, he wired his brain pretty well and now look at him!

Good question. I honestly don't know. I think it was partly a form of inherent, OCD-like behavior and parenting. Looking back, my parents never sat me down and said: "You must go to school, its important" I just sort of knew. This in combination with my natural personality was what did it.

Don't get me wrong, it can interfere sometimes. Though not frequently, every now and then I will get the "Can't you just skip the gym today?" from my wife along with the "You really can't leave work ten minutes early today?"

It's something I'm aware of and actively work on.

This, when I don't believe in something it isn't going to happen. When I do believe in something I can go full on to achieve it.

I would say highly disciplined.

My problem is trying to do too much at once, for example, I will start to draw something then do that for a few hours then go and write the lyrics to a song then jump back to drawing, at jobs I have worked at I usually do the same thing, jump around a lot which has led people to always wanting to put me in charge of something and others I work with acting threatened by me because they think I am trying to steal their jobs but I am not that petty, just believe in putting my best foot forward with what I am doing.

fuck not at all

I can manage to work out consistently but when it comes to school I couldn't possibly be a fulltime student with the (lack of) drive I have when it comes to studying.

Yes. AA teaches drunks they will get drunk a lot until they reach "rock bottom".

Of course, that's a myth. You can always decide to not engage in any action.

"Restraint" is a skill. You can receive a brain message and decide to ignore it.

Learning about discipline includes learning about how we relate to desires.

And internal resistance. Mind can create many excuses for abandoning goals.

Not very. I'm really bad about making myself do things if it's unpleasant, usually find a way out of doing it. The things I happen to be "disciplined" with (cleaning, reading, eating healthy) come pretty naturally to me so it doesn't feel like I'm disciplining myself
