Let me say it my way. You might work for several years on your shaggy mane strains and one day you have a strain that fruits easily. No matter if you want to make profit and sell it yourself or if you want to distribute it for free public use, you certainly don't want somebody else to patent it, sell it and/or sue you. (I guess that's why stamets files patents for all of his strains.)

Without wanting to make profit, you might just distribute it quickly to growers all over this planet, including asking them to keep strain history, like you said.

For full legal protection, I am afraid there is always the need for spending a lot of time and money for lawyers. Please keep us updated if you find something easier.

You are very right... Mushrooms cannot save the world IF they happen to be a private property of an individual, stolen out the nature!

I do not think Stamets is into that, but you got a good point.

Yeah...we're not really talking about Stamets here anyway.  Gary Mills comes to mind though.
