By abuse I guess I just mean overusing it, doing a lot of it with not enough breaks in between. Though I bet how much varies person to person.

Every drug has it's pro's and cons, nitrous is definitely not perfect but it's relatively safe compared to a lot of things. I think the biggest danger comes from impurities in the chargers such as oils and metal flakes, spraying those into your lungs cannot be good. Balloons and dispensers help catch some of it at least.

:werd:

I agree with that. And how it would vary from individual to individual.

When there's been tanks at small gatherings and what not it's kinda silly how I've seen some people get out of hand with the stuff....but out of all the people I've been around that do nitrous there's very few that I've seen that have an issue with it.

For the most part, the only time I inhale the stuff is if I am tripping or rolling. I've been pairing nitrous with my psychedelics and/or mdma for 7 or 8 years and haven't encountered any ill effects. That's 25 chargers at the most through out a night of tripping or rolling at home/camping, or 50 chargers over a 3 day festival. I've done that, 25 to 50 chargers, once every 2 months or so for going on 8 years now. I have yet to experience any of the side effects some folks get from it after using it over a period of time or from heavy use.

I'm acquainted with one dude that had what seemed to be an actual full on addiction to the stuff. He would inhale it just to do it, not even while tripping or rolling or while on other drugs. I'm not sure how much he'd go through but he was a rather frequent user, he started to experience nerve issues of sorts after a few months of regular use.

I've had a box of the stuff sitting around in my room for a few weeks now...I did 3 chargers in a single balloon yesterday but other than that it hasn't been touched. I don't have much interest in nitrous and it does little for me unless I'm tripping/rolling.

Duster is totally different than nitrous oxide though. One is mostly just suffocating you, the other is a dissociative drug. Duster is a blend of fluorocarbons and some even used to contain things like butane.

I totally understand how nitrous can get a bad image...but in my experience with it for going on 8 years now, how I have gone about using it, it's rather benign. And almost all of my "peak experiences" with psychedelics have been catalyzed by a mere inhalation or two of the stuff.

If you've never tried it at all...I do say you should consider trying it while tripping/peaking on the psychedelic of your choice sometime. This is one of the few things I ever kinda rant on about people having to try at least once , nitrous oxide with psychedelics (and/or mdma if you dabble)  . Don't bother with it otherwise, it's nothing special on it's own IME but it's ridiculous what it can do when one is on LSD or mushrooms or mescaline or MDMA or MDA (mostly with psychedelics though).

It can be used safely...Buy clean nitrous chargers. Don't suffocate yourself with it (no need to huff it, just inhale with some air and hold). Use occasionally, and when using it don't do a lot  . If you have an issue with self control with other drugs that can be "more-ish" and fiendish, then let it be known nitrous can be that way...it all depends on the individual though.

Just my 2 cents on nitrous, though I know I've thrown around the same 2 cents around here before lol.

Careful calling it "nitro" as some people might think u are talking about car boaster or the drug "nitrities".

But nitrous oxide IS used as a car booster. In that context "nitro" is nitromethane fuel though..

I have a box of ultrapure so next time i trip ill so one or two chargers and see if it makes me sick or if it's just sfg brand. but I used sfg for a while and the symptoms didn't start until later.

but I think the potential nerve damage is probably the worst and that's not the result of impurities. what evidence do you have that the impurities are even dangerous? not saying that aren't potentially bad but you can't just assume that's the worst. even medical grade nitrous used in a medical setting can be dangerous.

and the fact that it causes pressure fluctuations in the middle ear isn't good either. I'm sure that's why it gives me headaches, not the impurities. but I have sinus problems already so maybe it's not the same for everyone. but I didn't used to get headaches and they became more and more common until now one charge can give me a headache.

Something about it was off putting to me. Might have been the time that I saw this kid inhale computer duster until his eyes rolled back. It wasnt until about a year ago when I saw Duncan Trussel tell a story on This Is Not Happening about the first time he did acid that I even seriously considered trying it. He talked about trying it at the peak of his trip and having the most beautiful experience of his life. I'd probably only try it tripping if I was to ever experiment with it. Man I knew a guy who thought nitrous was the same as dustoff  He was super sketched out at me trying to get him to try some as he knew some deadbeat kids who would steal dustoff all the time and ended up looking like zombies they got so unhealthy  but after I explained literally the only thing they have in common is being a gas he gave some a try and liked it.

Nitrous on it's own is pretty subtle unless you do a lot, I usually hear people say it just makes them feel tingly and lightheaded. But it can get very trippy.

I have had some really profound epiphanies while doing nitrous. It feels like I came across taboo knowledge which I literally forget as soon as I remember it :uhoh: It's the strangest feeling. Like you just had the best idea ever which you then immediately forgot except for a hazy memory of the general concept.

Well for one who knows exactly what the impurities are. I have heard of metal shavings/flakes being found in chargers, as well as machine oils/ lubricants from the factory process. Which I am sure are not good to spray into your lungs  I have seen dispensers covered with black gunky oil on the inside after being used for tons of chargers  It made me want to throw up...

But yeah not saying nitrous itself is without dangers. I just think you'd have to be pretty reckless to actually cause nerve damage by using so much.

Personally I worry more about all the coffee I drink and my heart then occasional nitrous use, even solid binges once in awhile feel fine to me

Though one danger I imagine is already being low on b12 and then doing a lot of nitrous without realizing. To be safe you can just always take some vitamins though.

When I was younger and would do a lot more nitrous I was good about taking b12 supplements and I never had any issues.

Yea inhaling computer duster is super dumb.

Nitrous Oxide has been studied and shown to be safe enough to give to children.  At least that's the reasoning I used to use.

I personally think it steals the show from your trip.  It's best to just avoid it.  The absolute absurdity and maniacal laughter is pretty seductive.  It's one of those drugs that I can have sitting in front of me and not have urges to do it, but after that first balloon it pulls me in.

Hallucinations like people I've never met appearing in my room acting out scenes and interacting with me.  Or seeing things through other peoples eyes, literally.  Like you'll be in a different place and body and see what they are seeing for about 20 seconds.  I've seen through the eyes of people at music festivals while never leaving my bedroom.  I could see people walking around, tents, a stage in the distance, people walking up to me talking(but I couldn't hear them).

I remember one time I hit it and it was like I was walking through a hallway of light and would pass by some of the hallucinations from prior experiences but they were frozen in place at where the experience left off but I was able to walk around them.  All this shit only lasts like 10-20 seconds, like just as you're aware of it, it goes away.  That's how it gets you.

Or being shown the future/current state of reality elsewhere.  But it's my understanding that these aren't exactly common effects.  I rarely would get the helicopters or wahwahwahwah.  Lots of duality-black/white scenes and merging of duality.

I haven't done it for a couple years and every now and again I get the urge to hit my friend up for a tank of medical grade but I feel like I wouldn't enjoy it and might hurt myself because I abuse it.

Have you read up on the history of nitrous? Before it's medical uses were discovered philosphers/ scientists in the 1700's would make nitrous oxide gas in their labs to inhale, using a crude method that also makes other nitrogen oxides some of which are very toxic I believe. Anyways before long it became popular for upper class europeans to have nitrous parties

They would take oxygen masks hooked up to nitrous and just go at it. I have even read the myth that nitrous causes oxygen deprivation actually stems from this, stupid rich people would just breath in 100% nitrous from masks with no oxygen mixed in. Which no doubt caused a lot of oxygen deprivation from people being stupid.

Anyways a lot of old philosophers used nitrous as well as ether which I have never tried. Eventually nitrous started being used for medical purposes so they mass produced it.

One other thing I find really interesting is as nitrous is such a simple compound there are literally giant nitrous gas clouds in space that have been around since before our planet even formed.

Which is part of why I think nitrous can have such an "ancient" or primal feel in a way. It has a simple complexity that's very fitting for it.

lifewithnogallbladder.com/article/b12-warning-potentially-life-threatening-vitamin-deficiency-affects-25-of-adults/

this says potentially life threatening b12 deficiency affects 25% of adults.

I remember someone, I beleive it was on this site, who got long term damage from barely any nitrous. can't remember how much but a ridiculously small amount and she found out she had a certain genetic trait or whatever that makes nitrous extremely dangerous. she had no idea and damaged herself before she knew.

I remember reading that nitrous blocks the activity of b12 which would mean that supplements wouldn't be effective.

Yea you have to take excessive amounts of B12 because of how little gets pulled into the body.  I always used the liquid B12 and let it soak in my mouth since it has a higher bioavailability through that route.  I was definitely using it wayyy too much.  Like 150-250 chargers in a session with a blindfold and headphones on.

It's best to get a shot if you are experience symptomatic depletion.

Nitrous drains your B12 and eventually erodes the myelin sheath that covers your nerves.  It can cause spasms, numbness, tingling, and in extreme cases paralysis.  Lions Mane is supposed to be good at restoring the myelin sheath.

Nitrous is super moreish.  But the thing is, you can stay up all night crackin open a cold one and the next day have no desire to do more.  But it will still try to trick you into thinking it's fun.

Part of why it is so moreish is because it teases the shit out of you.  Just as you realize what is happening and you are about to figure it out it fades.  And often times the different "blasts" will have different parts of a story, and by the end of the night this non-linear story about nonsense is told.  Basically you are having this intense experience and when it goes away you want to get back there so you end up filling up more balloons so you can inhale more gas or try to draw out the 30 second experience but instead your body relaxes and your extra balloons fly out of your hand.  That or you get caught in a constant load crack inhale load crack inhale load crack inhale cycle because you don't have the patience to crack three into a balloon.

Nitrous is a waste on any drug that isn't psychedelic.  And it's a waste on psychedelics without taking a proper dose to begin.

This is the TRUTH!
