TO TRULY LOVE.. AN EGG. * 4
    #24185425 -

There are two ways in which you can love an egg.

In the first way, you love your egg fried sunny side up with pepper, salt and a sprinkle of parsley on freshly toasted lightly buttered bread.

In the second way, you love an egg, tucked safe and warm underneath the mother bird, in a cosy nest, so that it can fulfill its natural purpose and hatch a baby bird.

Notice?

The first love is a selfish love. It is not the love of the egg for the egg's sake, but a love for what the egg can do for you, and this at the expense of the egg's purpose. THIS IS NOT LOVE BUT EXPLOITATION.

The second love is a selfless love. It is a love of the egg for the egg's sake, not for your sake, and your desire is to make the egg fulfill its purpose, even though you might as well have eaten it. THIS IS TRUE LOVE.

What's this talk about eggs?

Lets talk about relationships. Your partner, or partner-to-be, as the egg.

Would you love that other for what he or she can do for you? My condolences, then you are not experiencing true love and your relationship, even if it hasnt even begun, even if it feels so right, is not to last.

But, if you love the Other for the Other's sake, to give to them instead of receive from them, and if the Other feels the same way, congratulations, you are truly in Love, capital L Love, and this Love will last for as long as the Love of both of you is defined by GIVING, and not by RECEIVING.

This is not a recipe for an omelet, but for a lifetime relationship.

Cause now you can tell when you are truly in love and whether the other is truly in love with you.

Mutual selfless giving is the key to lasting love.

Now you have the key, all you need now is the lock.

These words were given to me by a Nkondi with an egg in his belly, and I give them to you, to hatch them for their merit.

AWESOME!

I haven't seen that one but its the exact same message! Very cool, and I completely endorse it of course. Its another way to bring the same message.

My Nkondi led me from the Four of Cups from the African American Tarot, comparison here with the regular Four of Cups of the Rider-Waite Tarot:

towards the notion of selfless giving as opposed to expecting to be given, and then towards the Catechism of the Catholic Church (I was raised RC) dealing with homosexual relationships as culmination of the teaching.

There too, the same message applied, so whether you go:

Christianty
Judaism
Voodoo

There is only one key to true Love!  :loveheart:

I agree but I personally say it's selfish care and selfless care with the later resulting in love and the prior due to desire.

Love is a word with a fixed definition.  Claiming one behavior described here is truer to the word "love" is impossible.  This is actually a philosophical conversation about personal ethics.

I think it's just saying that satisfying only yourself is not coherent with what love is, which is selfless care.

What's your definition of love?

If you love someone you can let them go might be the message here, but again this is something we all experience in our own way.

I think most of us know you wouldn't consider it love if you were just being a gold digger.

I don't have the privilege of defining the English dictionary.  The fact is, selflessness does not show up in the definition of the word love.  An individual may define what the word means to them but whether that is truer than what the word means to anyone else is perceptual and has nothing to do with the deffinition.

I'm not arguing the OPs definition of love, I'm arguing his superiorotity complex that makes him feel like his personal philosophy of love is the only "true love".  That is BS, even though I don't personally oppose the OPs philosophy, to act as if ones philosophy is a "true" definition of a word is fundamentally incorrect because words have a fixed definition.

Given the single correction above, I completely agree. I know this feeling well. Unfortunately I had to make said correction as it is never possible to 'make' anyone do anything... all we can do is help and hope.

Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not.

dunno if this has been said yet or not, but...the vast majority of commercially produced chicken eggs (in America, at least) are infertile eggs.  Occasionally you'll find a fertilized egg.  Even in the years i've been buying organic free-range eggs, rarely are those fertile.  same for eating eggs from our own chickens, though there was a greater rate of fertile eggs in that case, cause nothing was done to prevent mating or affecting the male's sperm.

while i see the point you're trying to make....life consumes life.  with few exceptions, this is true.

That was a typo yes. we can only help it, it does its own thing independently of us and we can promote or hinder it.

And yet THAT is part of its proces too, just as it is.

FIRSTLY what if the real purpose of the egg is to be on my plate? do you know what an honour that is for an egg rather than being stuck under a chicken's butt???

how do you know what an egg or person's 'purpose' is???

SECONDLY
TRUE LOVE IS NOT IMPASSIVELY OBSERVING SOMETHING FROM A DISTANCE BEHIND A WINDOW. i mean why bother interacting with them at all? why not just give them money anonymously? why not just 'truly love' everything in the world from the safety of your house? the truth is to have a satisfying relationship with a person certain expectations need to be met

THIRDLY
GIVING AND RECEIVING IS NOT CLEARLY AND UNAMBIGUOUSLY DELINEATED. THERE IS AN EVER PRESENT POWER DYNAMIC IN ANY EXCHANGE WHICH BENEFITS AND COMPROMISES ALL PARTIES INVOLVED IMO. EVEN SIMPLY GIVING A GIFT DEMANDS TAKING UP THE RECEIVERS TIME AND SOLICITING THEIR GRATITUDE AND ATTENTION ETC.

IN SUM
DOING STUFF WITH GOOD INTENTIONS IS IMPORTANT. HAVING REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS AND DEMANDS THAT ARE CLEARLY COMMUNICATED IS TOO IMO

LASTLY

I APOLOGISE FOR THis RANT POST I AM BORED AND HAVE LITERALLY NOTHING BETTER TO DO WITH MY LIFE :peace:
