AFAIK he hasn't instituted much in the way of real policy changes. He's against most reforms that liberal Catholics would like to see and he hasn't been any tougher on child diddlers than his predecessor. His progressive rhetoric is empty and his proletarian modesty is an affectation.

It's not possible to prove a negative. But if I were to call a pope "liberal" or "progressive", he would need to at least try to change the Church's stance on birth control and redistribute much of the Vatican's substantial wealth among the most impoverished elements of the Catholic community. The fact that he doesn't go everywhere carrying golden scepters wearing a golden hat and a golden robe sitting on a golden throne, like his predecessor did, honestly doesn't amount to much. He would also need to provide evidence of the child sex abuse coverup to the proper authorities so that those responsible for it can be prosecuted under the laws of the land.

But I never presented my opinions as anything but opinions :shrug:
