CBD is schedule 1 so the manufacturers are already technically breaking the law.  They can get by the law by selling it "not for human consumption".  They can probably sell it as hair conditioner as it probably would work for that application.

You do know why this is happening?  They have to give their buddies in the drug companies time to get it patented so they will have a monopoly on it and charge an arm and a leg.

they cant patent it unless there's something proprietary that they've done with
it such as genetic manipulation and then they can only patent what they've done

The new UK law and now the FDA outlawing CBD.
I mean seriously.... the research has already been done on cannabis's incredible medical uses and it's extremely safe use then they do a step back like this.... WTF?

some miracle drugs that cure cancer as is frequently claimed by pro marijuana
advocates and many of them and the sellers of the shit like the rick simpson

You mean I can't just randomly label vials of water and oils as "CBD" claim they are a cure all and profit handsomely?  This needs to be stopped.

There is a minimum amount of safety, purity and efficacy data required to have something approved as a drug. Opinions vary on whether that is a good or bad thing, but I'm happy knowing my ibuprofen is legit.

Who pays for this research?  Generally pharma companies don't research drugs they can't patent and the federal government isn't spending money promoting the benefits of marijuana.  You also need special permits to research schedule 1 drugs in the US.  I think most of the studies use small sample size.  There is some research but not enough of it.  Not to say it doesn't have benefits, but the US government isn't making it much easier for researchers.

Patents aren't a major motivator of drug development. Exclusivity is, patents usually expire before a drug is marketed. The permits to do research aren't that big of a deal. Paperwork, mostly.
