Does anyone have direct experience with this?

My step sister had a gnarly concussion a few weeks ago and has been quite out of sorts. She literally will stumble around like she's drunk sometimes. Multiple times now she's broken down in tears from such severe headaches.

I've got roughly a years supply of piracetam and oxiracetam.... (As well as noopept and choline bitartrate)

Google leads me to believe that any of the racetam family could provide her the relief she needs from post concussion symptoms.

It really really sucks to sit by and watch someone you love in near constant misery when you might have something that could help them..

Problem is my OD. My parents have no fucking idea what a nootropic is and are very much unlikely to listen to any drug advice I give them...

I guess this is more of an effort to see if shroomery can give me any solid medical articles to support the cursory Google searches I've done that claim racetams will help my sister. Something my parents aren't going to disregard entirely.

I don't know maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree, it just breaks my heart to see her so broken and if my nootropic stash can ease her pain I feel obligated to share.

How would you bring this up with your family in my possision? Remembering that I almost killed myself with drugs and even though piracetam is EXTREMELY different from DOC it's likely they won't be eager to take my drugs or drug advice..

I would not start medicating someone in her condition. She needs to go back to the doctor if she is still having problems. This is more than a concussion. She may have a sub dural hematoma, which can become life threatening.

My dad hit fell and hit his head. Got stitched up and seemed fine. One day he collapse in the bathroom with seizures. The bang on his head had left a small bleed and clot, and while straining on the toilet, it started bleeding again.there was no permanent damage, but he was in the hospital for two weeks.

Concussions can be a doozy. Her brain needs rest more than anything right now. She probably shouldn't be infront of screens or watching tv or even doing much reading. I'm assuming since you're up in Canada that she has been to the hospital and seen a doctor, right?

I think this is a great question but if she hasn't been to a doctor yet, then she really should go. You might have more luck broaching the subject with an MD.
I know it's kind of an oddly sensitive one. My grandmother has Alzheimers and I've been bringing up nootropics for years to my parents - they're both educated, reasonable individuals and the only reason I brought it up is because I knew they wouldn't dismiss it as sketchy drug stuff right away, but they don't really seem terribly interested in learning about it and I don't think the GP my grandmother sees knows much about the subject. I'm gonna bring it up again because I think my mom is looking for a specialist or someone more experienced in treating dementia/alzheimers.

I'll post any good info I've got about the subject here, because I have to do some digging myself.

Hope your sis is on the mend soon, though. I've been there before - time and rest are the best things for her, but I wish I knew about nootropics after giving my brain a good shake up a few times - but yeah I agree with koods, before doing anything I think a doctor should be consulted. Head injuries are nothing to fuck around with.

She needs to get an MRI. A concussion should not leave someone confused a few weeks later.

Of course I would give them a factory labelled bottle with MSDS sheet to take to the next doctors appointment to run across the doctor. I wouldn't suggest they start dosing her without consulting the doctor. She sees a doctor every few weeks so I'm sure she's not got a hemorrhage and dying... I think she's currently undergoing some form of shock therapy?

Shock therapy? What? Like electroshock therapy where they induce seizures as a treatment for major depression? That would certainly leave someone dazed and confused.

I have zero idea what the shock therapy is its just something I overheard in passing and might have misheard them, or it could be totally unrelated to her and was about someone else. I shouldn't have mentioned that :lol:

I didn't realize she got it weeks ago, must've glossed over that.
That does seem concerning that she's stumbling around like she's drunk this long after. Hopefully she's already in the care of a good doctor.

I'm gonna agree with Koods and say she should go get an mri done or go back to the doctor sooner rather than later. ASAP if she is really uncoordinated and slurring her speech and shit.

Ok, I'll just ask this directly? Has she seen a doctor since she was diagnosed with a concussion? You said she sees a doctor every few weeks, which makes me think that this doctor has nothing to do with her head injury. Concussions should not leave someone walking around like they are drunk three weeks later. Maybe she doesn't even realize how off she is. Regardless, she should see a doctor specifically about her continuing neurological deficits ASAP.

I can't say for sure if she's had an MRI but I know she's been seeing a doctor weekly since it happened and if they thought she needed an MRI they wouldn't be waiting for it. The Canadian medical system is pretty boss and my family luckily has excellent health plans as both my parents were/are government employed.

All I know is she is not on any medications at the moment.

That's why I was thinking piracetam might be worth looking into. Of course like I said I would recommend they run it by the doctor first.

I just want to know if anyone thinks it's worth mentioning that I have this stash.. The last thing I need is for my parents to know I have this stash of drugs in my room that they don't understand what are if they aren't even going to consider them... Basically I'm just reluctant to say anything in case of repercussions on myself for having drugs in the house after an OD since to my family drugs are drugs are drugs are drugs and drugs are the reason I have no toes and almost died.

Just don't fuck with what the doctors are doing. Her problems are caused by swelling and bruising in the brain. Also,  it looks like piracetam markedly raises blood pressure, which could be catastrophic in someone who has potential bleeding.

So does nobody think it's worth mentioning? I should just stay out of it entirely? Or should I bring it up and let them take it to the doctor?

Honestly all accessible reports on google lead me to believe piracetam will help her..

the doctor would probably never suggest using piracetam no matter what you show show him. its not approved and could get him sued

I just was reading a website promoting piracetam, and they claim it has no side effects. This is a huge red flag.

Honestly, if a drug were really effective at treating a condition, a pharmaceutical company would have made the effort to put it through clinical trials and sought FDA approval to market it.

Piracetam doesn't seem to have any serious research behind it.

I can attest from years of use that piracetam has obvious benefits and zero negative side effects.

But gresh makes a good point about the doctor not being able to recommend it since it isn't FDA approved in my country.

I guess that's all I needed to know. I won't say anything.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I guess it's not as good of an idea as I tbough but it's hard to not think about ways to help a loved one... I'll keep it to myself and just pray the doctors can fix it somehow.

In recent zombie feet news I am going back for another surgery that doesn't absolutely need to be done now but if it isn't done then it raises chances of further problems down the road. I'm electing to have all the stumps removed from my left foot leaving just one stump of a foot instead of 4 toe stumps.

I'm worried that the toes are too mangled and if I stub them I could end up with exposed bone. Since the stumps do literally nothing for me I decided fuck it and I'm getting them off cuz my surgeon promises me if I go that route no further bone problems will arise.

So it means another surgery and almost a week in hospital again but it will speed up my over all recovery time and my expected time from for going back to work is only another 8 weeks :smile:

I'll post some more pics in May at the one year date.
