Making a Murderer on Netflix: Guilty or Not Guilty?
    #22735274 -

Excellent show to binge in 1-2 days. It's a 10-part series on Steven Avery. A guy that was exonerated for a 1985 rape in 2003 only to be arrested for murder  and mutilation of a corpse in 2006.

Guilty? Not guilty? Family set him up? Police planted evidence? What do you think?

If I was in the jury, based on the evidence I saw in the documentary, I would have voted not guilty. It was pretty obvious that at the very least the key was planted. No way I could trust anything the prosecutor presented after that. Also the prosecutor was just completely unlikable in general. It was especially horrible what they did to his nephew...

If I went to prison on a frame up by the cops and prosecutor for 30 years, even if innocent, all that time in prison wasted and the prime years of my life gone with no ability to go back... I'd probably go insane from that shit and take out my anger and hurt on the world in the sickest, twisted way possible when I got out to show the motherfuckers the monster they created out of an innocent man robbed of his life.  But that's assuming he wasn't guilty.

What I don't understand is how that god damned jury saw him guilty for the murder but innocent for the mutiliation or disposal
It's not as if those are exactly opposites they kind of go hand in hand

And then they convict the nephew, Brendan, for all three after only convicting Steven for one.

That's what doesn't make a whole lot of sense, on top of all the other nonsense.

I used to think Avery and the nephew were both innocent,
but after reading more about Avery after I watched the documentary,
I now think:

I don't know if Avery did it. It could honestly swing either way.
I don't think the nephew did it,
because the nephew is LITERALLY retarded.

Think about this: The Avery case had about 60 boxes worth of evidence. If they were to make a documentary about all the evidence, the thing would have been 1000 episodes long. So they take 10,000 hours of material, condense it down to 10, and edit it so they try to evoke certain emotions out of you. The documentary with its sad acoustic guitar music and clever edits is trying to make you feel a certain way, nobody should forget that, that is what documentaries are supposed to do.

To me the doc was REALLY about whether Avery was guilty or not, but was about the massive disservice and failure the justice system was to them from every step of the way. This documentary is about the very fine film of corruption coating the justice system, and frankly, I believe every single system whether "good" or "bad" is corrupted.

The kid who got locked up for supposedly helping Steven Avery was ordered by a judge to be released by Friday night. If anyone was innocent in that series, it was this kid. I'm still trying to remember specifics of the case after watching this entire series in two binge sessions nearly a year ago.

Judge orders 'Making a Murderer' inmate Brendan Dassey released by Friday; state appeals

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/midwest/ct-brendan-dassey-release-making-a-murderer-20161116-story.html

Quote:
A federal judge told Wisconsin prison officials on Wednesday that they must release an inmate featured in the Netflix series "Making a Murderer" by Friday evening.

It's unclear if Brendan Dassey will finally walk free, however. Hours after U.S. Magistrate Judge William Duffin issued his release order, attorneys with the state Department of Justice filed an emergency motion with the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, asking it to stay Duffin's order and keep Dassey behind bars.

Dassey, 27, has been serving a life sentence since he was convicted in 2007 of helping his uncle, Steven Avery, rape, kill and mutilate photographer Teresa Halbach at the Avery family salvage yard in Manitowoc County in 2005.

U.S. Magistrate Judge William Duffin overturned Dassey's conviction in August. The judge ruled investigators tricked Dassey, who was 16 at the time and suffered from cognitive problems, into confessing. Duffin ordered Dassey released from prison then, but said he would stay that request if state attorneys appealed. The state Department of Justice asked the 7th Circuit to restore Dassey's conviction, a request that's pending.

But Dassey's attorneys asked Duffin in September to release Dassey from prison while that appeal is weighed. Duffin granted the request Monday, rejecting the state's arguments that Dassey presents a threat to public safety. The state asked Duffin on Tuesday to reconsider but he refused.

Avery's two lawyers were pretty sharp. The one thing that baffled me was that they were not allowed to bring up other possible suspects during the hearing. I mean, the victims ex boyfriend acted rattled on the stand and had no alibi  for the time that she was missing.

So many things were obvious fabrications or just didn't gibe with what the cops were insinuating happened. They still have a lot to lose if the conviction gets overturned...that's why they have a budget of 10 million to defend their conviction. If it gets proven in court that they planted evidence...it will affect far more than just Avery's case...the flood gates will be opened to anyone convicted on blood evidence.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin prison inmate whose case was featured in the Netflix series "Making a Murderer" will stay behind bars while state attorneys appeal a decision overturning his conviction, a panel of federal appellate judges ruled Thursday.

Brendan Dassey's release from prison appeared imminent right up until the three-judge panel from the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago issued its decision. Television crews and reporters were staking out the prison in Portage where Dassey is being held, waiting for him to walk out at any minute, when the ruling came down around midday.

Dassey, 27, was sentenced to life in prison in 2007 in the death of photographer Teresa Halbach two years earlier.

In August, a federal judge overturned Dassey's conviction, ruling investigators coerced him into confessing. Wisconsin's Department of Justice appealed that decision to the 7th Circuit.

The judge on Wednesday ordered Dassey released from prison by 8 p.m. on Friday. The DOJ filed an emergency motion with the 7th Circuit hours later seeking to block the release.

Well, there is no way in fucking hell it went down like the Brendan said it did.  And I think it is unlikely Brendan had anything to do with it.

The documentary didn't touch on the theory of Scott Tadych as the murderer.  Plausible as his alibi is thin as air.

I am on the fence... I think it was probably someone in the family, maybe Avery.  I think it is less likely that either A) Police killed Halbach, and used her remains to frame Avery, or B) Halbach was randomly killed the vary night she visited Avery (Unlikely) and police found her body giving them the ability to frame Avery.

Read-up on Tadych.

From what I saw in the documentary, two people were setup, and a body was planted on the Avery's junkyard.

It left me with a bad bout of depression for a few weeks after, because I know there's a cruel system running things, and it'll bury anyone who stands in its way. I didn't like that being spelled out to me. It's like a warning to anyone with eyes to see, you keep in line, or you'll be next.

Planting evidence is not a hard thing to do. Justice? Just us. The golden rule is those with the gold make the rules.

I think I understand why so many want to go to Mars even though it's a barren rock, because even a world with no magnetosphere, 1/3rd earth gravity and an atmosphere that's mainly CO2 that's 1/100th the density of the Earth's seems a better prospect of living with all these crooks. But they'll follow there, of course they will. It's just another moneyspinning operation.
