How is mass sterilization any better?
Is it somehow nicer to render someone evolutionarily dead rather than kill them outright?

I think my OP has been misinterpreted. I'm not saying were overpopulated strictly in terms of not having enough resources to go around. I'm saying there are just too many people to ever get along. People are too rooted in their cultures and beliefs to ever be open to new ideas. People are too self interested to ever be useful to society. Sorry, but these people need to fuckin go.

Also, I'm not saying we ever should do this, or even that we realistically could do this and choose all the right people to survive. But if there were one way we ever could really move forward, this would be it.

Honestly if it were up to me I'd go with total extinction of humans. After everything we've done to this world, I don't think we're worthy to be here at all. I would give the world back to the animals.

If you have two people in the world, that's too many people to get along. Even if you're best friends and love each other, you'll have a disagreement and fight eventually.

Yeah, I'm with you on the total extinction, I don't want it to happen per say, but it's nice to know if it happens, nature will take back the earth.

When people say the worst, or dumbest thread ever it kind of makes me wonder how little they've actually used this website..

The other day this kid asked if Robitussin and triple c's had a different  high.

I've seen some stupid shit, this isn't the most intelligent, but it's hardly the stupidest.

i think that a cursory glance at written history will show that humans are all too ready to embrace new ideas and new cultures.  Also, self interest has benefited society many times.  In fact, society itself could be characterized by its members identifying their "self" with said society thereby making the interests of society also the interests of the "self".

I know it sounds like the easiest way, but i do not believe it is a necessary step for mankind to move forward.

In terms of the "survival" of the world, don't lose any sleep OP.  The world was here before us, and it will go on long after we have expired.

Is smoking bad? Yes? Why do people do it? Because they're stupid.

Is overpopulation bad? Yes. Why do people keep procreating? Because they're stupid.

How do you stop stupid people from continuing to do bad things? You can't. And stupid continuously breeding more stupid will definitely not fix anything. Just try asking cancer to stop being stupid.

I believe Ganga and Envix have the correct, if not an unpalatable, solution.

You're 100% right it has nothing to do with sex feeling good and being an animal behavior.  Or wanting to have a kid to love and hold and protect.  It is because they are stupid.  Quality post man.

the population issue is a non-issue.  I'm not the first person in this thread to point out that fertility rates are below replacement in many western countries.  For instance, the fertility rate in the U.S. is 1.88 children per woman.  it requires 2 people to make a child, therefore there is a fertility deficit in the U.S. of .22 children per mating pair.  This is not an isolated trend.  Brazil is at 1.81 children per woman. in 2000, Brazil was at 2.36. 2.81 in 1990. Mexico is at 2.22, barely above replacement.  In 2000 mexico was at 2.66.  you guys get the idea i'm sure.

I tried posting this on another forum, but it got closed because apparently it wasn't an appropriate topic for discussion. However, I need to know I'm not crazy and at least someone can see where I'm coming from, and I feel this is a more open minded community that will be a little more understanding and capable of having a civil, intelligent discussion. So here it goes.

Am l a bad person for truly believing mass genocide of 99% or more of the world's population wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing?

Honestly, 7 billion is just too many goddamn people. That many people are just never going to get along, and there just aren't enough resources for them all to live comfortably. In my ideal scenario, the population of the world would be reduced to maybe 100 million people. But even that sounds like a lot. Maybe 10 million. But these people would be carefully chosen to be the most open minded, selfless, intelligent individuals on the planet. I feel like if we could start over with that population size with our current technology, hopefully humanity would prosper.

I was just thinking this because in my contemp issues class I for some reason or another said I would advocate for genocide and some bleeding heart liberal feminazi got all "excuse me, what the fuck did you just say" on me and I didn't really realize I was being offensive.

Does it make it better that I would be more than willing to be one of the condemned for truly having hope in a better society? Or does that just make me crazy?

From 7 billion to 10 million what do you think your chances of surviving would be ? You probraly think your in the 1 PERCENT and so do the 99%

you may see that a lot, but all the same, "that dog don't hunt".
if the idiocracy premise were true, then history wouldn't be a steady march towards greater and greater quality of life(through advancing technology mostly), but(with a few fits and starts) it is.

I already stated in my original post that I'd be willing to die.

But you guys are right, it's ironically selfish of me to think killing off most of the world's population to reshape the world into my own ideal vision of the world is the right thing to do. Even still, I didn't know so many of you were so content with the current state of the world, but I'm not.

Kill yourself.

It's for the good of the world, remember.

Don't kill yourself, I enjoy you. Plus every life is sacred and blah blah.

Eliminating people will never work. It's been tried multiple times before and always failed.

Attrition is the way to go. Controling who gets to reproduce and who doesn't seems like a much better way to solve the problem. Use genetic decoding to know who has the best genes and llow them to have more kids than others. If your genes areaverage, you can have a kid. If they are below average, you get refused.
