Grooveshark shuts down

I fucking loved grooveshark. free music streaming on my computer or phone anywhere I went, including while I drove in the car

They had a lot of fucking music too

Apparently they had no licensing and it was all completely illegal. How the fuck did they operate so long?

Either way I'm pissed off, I used to just get to play whatever I wanted and now I'll have to download it.

Lame.

I'm upset about this too, all the other streaming services suck when it comes to the amount of content I want to listen to compared to grooveshark, they had everything youtube has.

Back to downloading again for us. I'm still not paying either way.

Just don't use Spotify. It's better to steal the music you like than to give Nicki Minaj (or similar lifeless human husk) most of the money you're paying for the obscure band you listen to.

honestly all you need is soundcloud. theres soooooo much free music on soundcloud

just follow artists and new music from your fav producers/DJs will automatically show up in your stream. easy as fuck. its the only site you need


idk why people bother with like spotify and pandora and shit like that

That was the reason why grooveshark was actually good anyone could upload anything and no one even cared. Soundcloud is jus another way to market music to you and its super dumb now. Fucking bullshit. Im pissed.

kinda funny all the bisco sbds were there cuz one year at camp they actually had a "grooveshark" tent. it was pretty huge

They stayed in business by using the same loophole youtube uses. They can't control what users upload. They fucked up by having their staff re-upload songs en masse, an investigation turned up internal communications detailing their practices and the record companies took them to the cleaners.

I'm  usually all about fucking over the big companies, and will just never, ever pay $1 a song.  At that rate I couldn't even afford to explore different artist and genres.

However, I am convinced that streaming music services are the future.  They allow people to bypass the big music force fed crap and develop their own tastes.  It also gives less popular artists a fair shot a making a good living.  For these reasons I am actually glad to pay to support a service that is trying to move us into the future.

I pay $10/month to Spotify and fucking love it.  It is some of the best money that I spend.  As a music lover I can spend hours and hours just exploring unique music I would never hear if I only played what the big labels pushed on us.  Absolutely wonderful and well worth the subscription cost.  And as a bonus I have all my play lists and saved music available on any internet device.  I can log in through a browser at a friends house and have everything I have at home, or on my phone.  Amazing really.

Maybe consider just paying for a streaming service.  It is more than fair for unlimited music and almost infinite variety.
