V-shaped notch above areoles

I have a question for the cacti enthusiasts on here. I tried the search engine, but couldn't find much. So here it is: Does the V-shaped notch above areoles in trichocereus cacti mean or indicate anything.  I have a few T. Pachanoi from different sources. I always assumed that they were all PC. However, recently, I noticed that one of them has distinct visible V-shaped notch above areoles, while the rest of them don't or have only a few, very faint notches (I mean, I have to damn near squint and stand upside down to see them).  Any insight on these notches would be much appreciated. I can post pictures tomorrow when the sun is up. Thank you.

i was reading up about my pc's and found v notches are a good indicator are usually a sign of non pc,
i've found my pc's have very saw like on the ribs with noticeably white areoles facing up, also when it flowers ive found that non pc usually have black stringy buds where and pcs are white, hope this helps

From what I have read on the matter, the areoles should be more of a brownish color, and those v shaped notches are a decent indicator, but the only way to truly "know" is to wait for it to flower. There was something in trouts notes about it, http://troutsnotes.com/pachanot/. Check it out if you'd like. Those notches and the brownish areoles could depend on growing conditions and aren't 100% indicators from what I understand.

The first one has faint notches. But, they are notches non-the-less. I have always assumed that the "no notches" one is a PC. Neither of them have been bio-assayed, so I know not about the alkaloid content. They actually are for ornamental purposes.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
