Ive noticed in the Pub and other places that virgins are hated on pretty frequently. Especially when a guy makes either an very opinionated or very angry comment about a woman. I don't really get why this is an assumption that is made. If anything, wouldn't womanizers be more likely to be misogynist this way?

I mean firstly, if being a virgin did make you hateful its probably because you are so sad and lonely. Secondly, while I'm aware that the interwebz makes people come out of their shell philosophically, so its possible any virgins I know are just liars, in my experience older virgins tend to be nicer people. Fucked up sad people but nicer.

Before anyone asks yes, I am a virgin, so my point of view is not all that objective. Its just a weird thing to harp on IMO. Plus, why does it only go one way? Guys who are virgins are asshole losers who deserve their fate while women are just shy or are saving themselves.

This just seems like a bunch of high-school bullshit. Why does this make people so angry?

I never got the sense that virgins were a hated group. I think you've kinda got it backwards and are taking comments too seriously.
When someone is being  misogynistic dick, the easiest way to push his buttons is to insult his virility and manliness; so you call him a virgin. But that doesn't mean all virgins are misogynistic dicks.

If you came in here and said "Hey I'm a virgin and I need help getting laid." people would give you tips not call you an asshole loser.

I do get where you're coming from, though, as concerns the ridiculous, outdated double standard surrounding virginity.  It's a holdover from back in the day when gender roles were aggressively enforced by society at large.

Virginity was originally seen as a positive, feminine trait. A virgin is a women who does not sleep around. She is likely to be more cultured, disease free and loyal to her husband. This was very important in times before modern defenses against STD's and contraceptives.

Many cultures that view the family as the base unit of society regard sex before marriage to be a highly undesirable thing as it can lead to fragmented families, children born out of wedlock and of course the rampant spreading of disease.

These days modern drugs and contraceptives reduce the value of virgins considerably as, with appropriate knowledge and discipline it is possible for friends to have casual sex for recreation without the risk of disease and unwanted children.

However the loyaltee component is still at play. If the only person you've ever had sex with is your husband than your husband is the best sex you've ever had. As they say you don't miss what you don't know. It is for this reason many people still prefer to remain celibate before marriage.

As for "virgin hate" it's like Lynnch said: because virginity is a feminine trait calling a man a virgin is emasculating and thus an effective insult. Similar to how saying a man "throws like a girl" is also emasculating and therefore insulting.

Why celibate men refer to themselves as virgins is beyond me. May as well profess yourself a maiden.

Virginity is not a "feminine trait".  Celibacy and virginity are two separate things.

It most certainly is. The word literally comes from the french word virgine which translates to maiden (unmarried young woman). Even the anglicized virgin has only relatively recently been bastardized to include men.

For obvious reasons virgin women have been extremely significant both culturally and socially whereas "man who doesn't have sex" has far less importance and thus remained an unnamed phenomenon.

Probably one of the reasons why there isn't a name for male virginity is for the very reason I stated in my earlier post - most men would take such a label as an insult. By contrast historical and to a lesser degree contemporary virginity in women is seen as a sign of value.

Interesting about the etymology, but historically and culturally speaking, chastity in males isn't necessarily a negative thing.  In many subcultures here in the US, men are expected to remain chaste until marriage, and male purity is considered a virtue.  This does, however, stand in stark contrast to the hypersexualization that is prevalent in the dominant culture.  So if anything, in America at least, both biases exist simultaneously.  On a smaller scale (on this site, for instance), the need for validation from peers probably prompts most males to posture for each other and attempt to assert their masculinity through displaying their perceived sexual prowess.  In most cases this show of "manliness" is purely fictional and indicative of deep delusion, therefore completely unconvincing and unimpressive.

I completely agree with this. It comes down to gender roles. Back in our primal state Men desired to procreate with as many women as possible, so their genes would more likely survive and spread. Women desired to procreate with only the most dominant males. Raising a child takes time, and resources away from the female. It's an important decision, and not in her interest to breed with every/any man. This is why they wanted the most dominant, because the most dominant was usually that for a reason, physically stronger ect.
Society has changed our gender roles, what we find attractive, ect, but an the core, they exist in a very mutated way. Some redundant principles still remain; such as the woman-slut/male-stud concept when one person sleeps around.
Despite no longer serving any real value, the opinion's of other people have real consequences that influence a person's behaviour. Women known as a slut via a community is a real taint upon her personal life, and as such women will deal with sex one f two ways, they will either deny the amount of sex they have; or they will justify it, as 'just sex.'
It's fascinating to me. Men on the other hand, well sadly, you're missing out on one of life's greatest experiences, over rated, but still great. What ever you've been doing up until now, it hasn't been working, so i suggest you try something else.

I'm not really sure what the OP is even talking about.  I've never noticed anyone hating on virgins here at all.  I literally can't even remember one time.  Everyone here is more than supportive and if they are not they get banned.

Its not people who are like "I'm a virgin" and everyone else is mocking him. Its just used as an insult, like "pwnasaurus is being a total asshole to that girl, fucking virgins." Its like calling somebody a nigger as a derogatory term but saying you aren't a racist, you know?
