Just found a new article that completely debunks the leftist tripe that no one in america can move up. Discuss intelligently.

I dont see how this debunks anything. I have no opinion on this topic one way or the other.

But from an impartial view, that is a garbage article, it doesnt prove anything. All it mentions is a paper written that they dont even properly source. They dont linky to it at all even.

You can go up anywhere on earth. In America nowadays, because of the recession, you need to work harder at it. Recessions are great for the rich, it allows them to buy a shit ton of investment at very low prices (at the cost of the poor who can't afford their payment anymore). So the poor needs to work extra hard to go up, but it is still very possible.

No need to find an article demonstrating the right wing tripe that lefties believe no one in America can move up.

Last year I made around 14k. This year I made around 90k.

Myth indeed :smug:

I've never heard of or met anyone who believes that you cannot move up in economic class in the US.

Every statistic I've seen on the matter has indicated that it is increasingly difficult to do so however and by percentage less are moving up in class than before. I'll dig up some stats and post later if no one beats me to it, don't feel like doing so this very second.

This. But you know, it's all or nothing with some people. No such thing as shades.

90k is still a drop in the bucket. I lived in a town where a 250k/year salary was considered bad.

But this is sort of what the big timers want people to think is wealthy, they'd love people to be happy with 90k/year, when they pull ten times that, the really wealthy pull a hundred times that a year.

Sure I mean I want more but I live extremely simply, no kids, no significant bills besides rent/food. And I don't intend to change that, ever. So for me life is good, as long as I can afford a few nice things here and there I'm happy

Eventually the big expense for me will be getting a weld rig setup. But still, the average income in america is like 35k a year so 90 is still legit, IMHO.

Oh for sure man. To people 90k is fucking great. I'd love to make 90k a year.

But for the wealthy, it's nothing, and thats how they want it. Theyd love for us to think 100k/year is wealthy, but compared to the people who have mass wealth, they know they are just pacifying the public.

Absolutely agree. Particularly interesting is the ratio of CEO/average employee income in the last few decades - that ratio, on average, has EXPLODED to something like 400:1. Absolutely ridiculous.

I don't think the left's focus is generally on economic immobility so much as it is on wealth inequality along with its social and political implications-- for example, opposition to the recent rulings by the SCOTUS to strike down various campaign finance regulations. The problem is not that people can't improve their situations, the problem is that the rights of the working and middle class to participate in their government and have access to the decisions that affect their communities is being overshadowed by a growing wall of financial consolidation.
