make them with more than one type of finish.... not everyone wants to play a chalk board.

Plus, have you ever felt a chalk board? ehhhh... and parents are going to be pretty pissed off when the kids find out they can make 'music' by scraping their finger nails on the chalkboard finish.

So according to your comments in this thread, I should put nice finishes on them and sell for a few hundred dollars? I think that customer base is covered. I have a plan and a target customer which I am sticking to. If you would like a custom built instruments with a glass like finish, I would gladly build you one, but it will be more in the price range you have suggested. :smile:

Website is up and last needed equipment is being purchased this week. I should be able to go into production either this weekend or next week. I'll take pics of the assembly line when I get into the swing of it.

Starting a business is so much fun. I hope any of you that wants to go for it, will go for it. It's truly a blast.

The only thing that surprises me is you didn't do any "sample" runs before kicking it off. I would think you would want to loan out a few freebees just to get feedback. I'm sure people would make suggestions you would find useful. Maybe a different scale, size, color scheme, supplementary instruction book of some playable songs, or other innovative ideas on modifying it. But, since you have distributors already I guess you are pretty well set.

I am desperate to start my own business, I just can't think of anything as original as this.

Due to a VERY generous donation by one of your fellow shroomerites, I have 80 instruments going out to charities, schools, and hospitals for the Christmas season. In two weeks I have 8 going out to the Boston Children's Hospital and then 5 going to the donator. I also am waiting to hear back from an inner city after school program that should be picking up a handful of instruments.

I'll take pictures of the events and post them here and on the instrument website.

Donator, if you wish to identify yourself I will gladly confirm it. If you want to remain annonymous, then that is your right as well.

What a fine community we have here. I just wanted to drop you guys an update on how things are going in this venture. Once these instruments are all donated and we update the website with pictures of the instruments and donation events, I am going to be working to build up my stock to get ready for the next summer season.

Okay, I'll identify myself as the donator.  I can't really claim to be generous.  All I can say is I feel that I was just responding to a higher power.

Automan is doing all the work.  He shared his well thought out business plan.  His goal is to help children.  He has found his purpose.  I don't think I'm there yet.

Reminds me of my visit earlier this year... got to spend some time with a local livin' in Ewa Beach who purchased some subwoofers from my business and wanted to show me around the local digs.  While I'm sure they're out there somewhere, I have yet to meet an unkind islander.  Thanks GnosticWarrior, for helping introduce and inspire many children to the wonderful world of music.

geokills, glad you got to visit Hawaii.  Your lucky you got a local to show you around to see the more authentic Oahu.  But even I enjoy going to tourist spots every now and then. Hopefully your business brings you here more often, maybe we can meet up sometime.  Yes, overall we got a pretty good vibe here.

I would buy one of those, the only instrument I can really play is the ukelele all the others are too hard.
