I got a chipotle gift card for getting a flu shot
    #19712273 -

They must really want to get that mercury in our bodies.

Can some one debunk the bad side effects of vaccines so I don't feel so stupid for taking a vaccination.

or verify them.

You could get Narcolepsy. (very unlikely but more likely cause you got the vaccine)

Thimerosal in vaccines is approximately 50% mercury by weight.
It's added to vaccines as a preservative at a concentration of 0.001% to 0.01%
At 0.01%, a 0.5mL inoculation contains 25ug of mercury, in an organo-ethylmercurial form rather than the highly toxic methylmercury form.

Toxicity doesn't start kicking in until you've reached the mg/kg range, so unless you plan on getting about 1000 more vaccinations this week, you're gonna be fine.

Does that make you feel completely confident that smaller amounts have no negative effects?

All the research disproving correlation between vaccination and developmental disorders puts me well at ease.

The only vaccination related problems I can think of from my lifetime are the 1974 botched MMR vaccine, and a 1972 vaccine (I don't recall which one) which was accidentally formulated with 1000x the amount of thimerosal it was supposed to have.
The most recent "problems" regarding vaccination have been outbreaks of diseases previously kept at bay by vaccination programs which are now being avoided due to unnecessary fear.

Well the LD50 for oral thimerosal is 75 mg/kg in rats and 91 mg/kg in mice. Assuming that humans are in the same ballpark, then you'd receive (if you weigh 154 lbs/ 70kg) 0.0004464% of a lethal dose of thimerosal from a vaccine containing the compound. It's safe to assume that there are negligible effects from such a tiny exposure.

Yes.  Basing decisions on empirical data and objective evidence does in fact, make me feel better about getting vaccines.

The side effects from the flu-shot are pretty negligible.

You can get the shot without mercury.  Typically the single dose vials do not have mercury only they multiple use vials with 10-20 doses.  However the flu shot is a scam they take a guess at what might be this years flu strains when they make the concoction.  Maybe they get lucky maybe not....

This is exactly what a chemistry professor of mine explained to a class. That people hear about a substance like mercury and instantly assume its toxic no matter the dose. That's not the case. Nutmeg is extremely neurotoxic at higher doses but is commonly baked with at lower doses. It's all relative

If its a scam why aren't millions of people dying from flu pandemics as was the case before flu shots?

The flu shot typically gets somewhere around the 30% efficacy range.  This winter was the first time in a long time that I've gotten a flu shot, and it was the first time in just as long that I got the flu.  Entirely coincidental, but irritating nonetheless.
The flu shot in an educated guess towards what the 3 - 4 most likely strains are going to be, but when you're talking about something as highly mutable at influenza, it's as bare-bones educated as you can be.
People aren't dying by the millions any more in large part to a basic understanding of infection control.  Handwashing is more common.  People know better than to go and hang out with someone who is sick, and people who are sick (usually) know well enough to cover their mouth when they sneeze and cough.  We've got Lysol and Purell.  And for the people who get really sick, like the eldery, the neonates, and the immunocompromised, we've got hospitals and i.v. fluids and anti-emetics and anti-diarrheal medicine so people don't die of dehydration.

SO, it's not a "scam" per se, but for someone who isn't part of a high-risk group or has little contact with a high-risk group, it's not really necessary.

Interesting that you should mention that, I used to get the flu immediately after taking my flu shot every year. Haven't had the flu since I stopped getting vaccinated. Coincidence maybe but I couldn't bring myself to take a flu shot again to find out, that is a very painful experience (flu).

I was thinking about what you said concerning hygiene before posting the question, figured it would be worth posting anyways to see responses

i got a flu shot once, I got the flu directly after. Never had the flu any other time, I'll never get another flu shot.
