The spiral, or fibonacci sequence
    #19425698 -

So...obviously this sequence has an important role in all of nature. It has applied mathematics that translate into spirals.

Well, I have this friend who attempts to apply it into things he does in real life. I respect this guy a lot. He's a  bit older than me and was there as I came up through my pot smoking phase and tripping years. While he had already tripped hundreds of times on lsd and has been around the block. He is also very knowledgeable on a lot of subjects.

anyway a couple of examples of how he tries to apply this spiral sequence:

He metal detects for civil war relics and says that the best way to go about hunting is start at a center point in whatever field you are searching and then spiral outwards...I guess this is to maximize the surface area in a timely manner...seems to make sense...he's really good at what he does so it must work

another thing...we were in a band together for 4-5 years and when we'd gig he tried to encourage us to book our gigs in a spiral manner...like if you were to look at google earth select our practice area and try to book out gigs in a spiral manner...I guess this would be to have the ripple effect of talk kind of have a slingshot effect

I mean both of these seem to have pretty logical reasoning, or am I just wanting to subscribe into something that seems mystical?

What do you guys think? What else could this be applied to in life?

That's a really sweeping overgeneralization and oversimplification.

Did you guys just see that movie pi or something?

In your own words, you are "just wanting to subscribe to something that seems mystical." It's just a sequence.

I know its used in day trading as well, though not sure exactly how

I've had dreams about this shape, as well as multiple times visualizing it whilst tripping..

Not sure what it means...

I know the most complex DNA genome of any bacterium ever sequenced is a spirochete; the bacteria responsible for lyme-disease.

Needless to say this is of much interest to me.

Minute 44:00 is an important part of this video!

It explains something very cool about fractals directly relating to the golden ratio

I wouldn't say it's "just a sequence". There's a reason it's found throughout the natural world. It is the materialization of efficiency. Efficiency leads to success. This is why many flower heads have the seeds arranged this way. Cut a fruit or vegetable in half. It's evident in the proportions of living things.

efficiency is just a word.

in certain applications the answer is "surface area"

in other applications the answer is other words.

efficiency is too broad.

It's just a pattern. The sequence 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5... is just as important as the fibonacci sequence. In fact, it pops up in more places than the fibonacci sequence by far, but you don't get high and contemplate integers.

How is the answer "surface area"? Oh you mean like the "efficient" use of "surface area" in distribution of seeds over the surface of a flower head? Right, I agree. What was your point again?
