I think this is an important statement. I've noticed when most men state their distain for makeup its not makeup in general. Its when women turn themselves into someone they;re not. Theres a huge difference between caking on make up to the point where you look like a different person (see original pictures), and using makeup to accentuate what you already have.

I'm not a make up hater, but I do think a lot of these girls are very pretty without it.  Most of them just look like they could use some sleep and a healthier diet (Granted, I don't actually know what they're eating, but legit food will work wonders for your skin).

Make-up, imo, can't make an ugly face pretty, but it can cover up the signs that a person isn't taking very good care of themselves.  A person isn't ugly or shallow because they wear it, but it's sort of a... "beauty shortcut" if that makes any sense.  Like painting over a crack in the wall rather than repairing the wall.

I would actually tend to disagree with this. I think men are pressured just as much as women are, its just that women tend to be more effected by that pressure.

I mean yeah, there are plenty of male models that look good. I don't disagree with you there. But why do women generally spend more time getting ready to go out somewhere than men do? If men wanted to, I'm sure there are plenty of things that they could spend time doing to add some pizazz to their appearance. But most of them don't, unless they are like metrosexual or something. Why are women the ones you always hear about taking forever in the bathroom to get ready?

We generally have longer hair which can take longer to style, for one thing. But then you have other cosmetic things like make-up, and having to keep pretty much all hair below the neck shaved or trimmed. Most guys don't do those things because why would they? There's no societal standard that makes men feel pressured to shave off all their body hair or have a pretty face and perfect complexion. You don't see guys rushing into the stores buying the latest skin care products.

Its things like those that make me feel like women are more pressured to make themselves look attractive. Guys can get away with more in that regard,  IMO.

Is time spent at the gym not time spent working to improve one's attractiveness?  How about time spent working working working to afford the nice suit and the cool car and the expensive watch?

You really think men don't get sized up based on their appearance as much as women?

Sure going to the gym counts. But women go to the gym too. I am pointing out things that women do that men do not, in order to strengthen my argument.

Women also work to afford their nice clothes and jewelry too. :shrug:

The difference between male and female standards of beauty, is that males don't feel like they have to completely change their looks, or be completely different from their natural state, in order to get a woman. Going to the gym improves the actual you. Wearing false eyelashes, eyeliner, lipstick, hair extensions, and breast implants uses fake things to completely alter your looks.

There is no societal pressure for guys to look like anything because guys don't respond to it.

The reason: we don't look at other men.

Ever noticed how guys have a hard time judging the looks of another guy? That we struggle to come up with a verdict on how attractive another dude is?

We are not wired to care about or pay attention to other dudes.

It's this testosterone thing that drives us to dominate and think we are better than other men who are all douchebags. Call it arogance... it's a blessing.

this is completely false. Men are definitely wired to pay attention to other men. We size up the competition, look at health, how built they are, how good of a 'provider' they are, who would win between you and him in a fight, etc. Maybe not consciously, but subconsciously all men pay attention to that type of stuff.

Really?  I find it pretty hard to believe that most men are incapable of telling an attractive from an unattractive man.  I do believe that many men are far too homophobic to admit that another man is attractive, however.

Sure, I might not be able to tell a 6.5 from a 7, but I can put them in the ballpark.  Same as straight women with other women I'm sure.  Not to mention that attraction is so subjective in the first place.

yea i can almost promise most men have no problem judging the attractiveness of other men. A lot of men just happen to be insecure in their own sexuality and think that recognizing an attractive man makes them "gay".

Sorry but that is BS. For starters in latino culture men exhibit high testosterone fueled "machismo," and they care about their looks, their bodies, their tan, and their hair.

Also in ancient athens, men were bi and considered the primary objects of beauty. Men back then probably had higher testosterone levels than the men of today. Estrogen levels among men are high today in our society.

Know how else its bs? Cause every single man can tell when a guys ugly. They're simply too insecure and jealous to admit when they're good looking

I don't know, I've been told I'm ugly, average, and very handsome by girls my age. I see myself as myself. I can't distinguish my friends who are better looking than I because, shit, usually I feel I'm better looking. For instance, I actually brush my teeth very often, floss constantly, lift weights etc. I got a small lazy eye but fuck it, I just don't look to the right too often and it hides it.

I know to judge a good looking guy based on how often women oggle at him. I don't exactly see it right away. It's only after seeing these bitches get all emotional or wet over some dude that I know to emulate that. My famous "I live with this girl" who seriously just looks at guys all the time and says which guys are hot or cute. Gets annoying as hell hearing it daily but truthfully, it helps me to know what to try to fix.

Now, this same girl puts a SHIT TON of makeup on. I made a thread saying she looked like helga from hey-arnold and I stick by that. However, she puts so much makeup on for things like church that she looks like she's finna make some porn.

I, personally, would not date this girl mostly cus her fucked up, vapid way of doing things but even if I liked her a bit, I still say a more natural way of doing things is better. That applies to pubes as someone stated. Eating better, sunlight, exercise should all be routes to choose before any makeup/surgery. It's what I do and I feel better earning something.

Shit... this girl just came home making weird baby voices for her dogs and cat. She fucking kisses her cat before she leaves every morning. I need a irlfriend quick.

Well she treats my dog like shit. Always yelling at him and such. I treat her dogs good. I guess I do weird shit with my dog too so point taken. But why she gotta be so mean to my littler weiner dog?
