I've worked in sales jobs, I've worked in cubicles, multinationals, and for a short while I even worked for a fucking bank. The pay was good the work was easy, I could have stayed there for months and years, I'd be way richer now. I still left, once I learned how fiat currency works. Never looked back, and I'd never get in that field again. There's a difference between corporations. Disney, Monsanto and Blackwater aren't made equal. What I'm saying here is that if you're in such a messed up system as the US military, you've hit a moral rock bottom. There's no lower point to sink to, save for perhaps a few I mentioned above. Being a heroin dealer, child pornographer, trafficking in people.
There we go. Shouldn't even be there. Could have made all manner of things happen in a constructive useful field, other than waving guns at people in their own countries. I hope he gets out and finds some sort of honest living. Posting shit on Facebook won't solve anything. Nobody gives a fuck about his posts. Where he actually shows up for work and paychecks, that speaks way louder.

Where he actually shows up for work and paychecks, that speaks way louder. I disagree. He was very sheltered all throughout high school, and I think this experience has really made him a lot wiser and more grown-up. He has seen and felt things that some of us will never know. I think that is a beautiful experience. He has a very stable healthy mind, and didn't come back with any PTSD or anger issues or anything. He's getting out in 2 more years, and I am confident he will make something of himself after that. I can easily see him as a professor teaching history or politics or gender studies. The military was just a stepping stone for him, so he could get free tuition and income while attending college. I once told him I was thinking about joining the marine corps and his way to persuade me from joining was by saying, "NO!!!!! DO NOT DO IT YOU WILL REGRET IT. Okay.... Just imagine.... THE DUMBEST FUCKING GUY YOU'VE EVER MET..... being in charge of you and giving you all your orders." ![]() He's really sacrificed a lot, and while I don't think that the US military is noble, a lot of these guys enter the military because they are poor, uneducated, and need money. So don't hate the soldiers. Even though the cause isn't noble, they do a lot of back-breaking work that is admirable. Hate the cogs behind the military, not the soldiers.

PS I find your definition of constructive sort of funny. So for women, constructive useful field is stripping and prostitution. For men, constructive field is only in a field where you're using your mind. Without the marine corps he probably would have ended up as a bartender, or a construction worker, or a plumber, stuck back in Wisconsin performing manual labor. He comes from a very poor family, and his service in the military allowed him to travel outside of his small world in Wisconsin and give him an opportunity to go to college. The guy really is something. Scored top 1% on the ASVAB, could have had any job he wanted. Could have had a cushy job as an engineer making over $100grand. He turned it down to make $1200 a month so he could fight front-line infantry, because he wanted the experience. Personally, if I were to ever get placed in the military, I would pick infantry myself. That's only because I want to see and experience that which most other people will never understand.

So if they joined the Mafia and worked their asses off for the protection money, that's cool with you, right? Do you stop and think about the SOURCE of the money they get paid with? The fact that the dude needs the money does NOT justify becoming a fucking corporate mercenary. If the Mafia or some street gang have you do "back-breaking work" and then they pay you with heroin money, that doesn't justify anything. Consider what that organization is doing, the messed up business model they employ.
Again, think of the Mafia for a second. If they happen to be the quickest source of a buck on your street, and you don't feel like working an honest job, does that make it OK to be an enforcer for them? I don't care what he got trained to do, or if the work is hard. The organization is corrupt, it's bent on stealing and running errands for inhumane corporations at the expense of innocent civilians' lives, in countries they "bring democracy" to. With bombs and bullets. Make the difference between joining the military in say, Canada or any other country that doesn't fucking invade people at random, and the US, who does. They may wear similar uniforms and train similarly, the jobs may have the same names (soldier, defense, military) but in practice they're VERY different institutions. I have no beef with soldiers who just train and remain on defense. The US does no such thing. I never said women should go into stripping and prostitution as the only constructive contribution. I am saying both of those are FAR better options, compared to being part of an invading force looking for profit at the expense of human lives. In fact what are we even talking about here? Your friend himself, which you consider to be smart and well informed, told you straight up that joining the military was a bad idea, so I'm having trouble understanding what position you're advocating here. Even when he does get out and gets his money, I hope he feels the sting of the shit operations he's contributed to. It's blood money. For him to get his paycheck, several lives have actually been destroyed, lands and resources stolen, a whole country has been ripped apart and divided for corporate profit. Men women and children, often non-combatants, have lost their lives and had their families wrecked. That's the point I'm trying to get across in this thread. If you take active part in destroying other people and their families, you do deserve to have the same happen to you.
This right here. This is why I think he deserves to never come back alive. Could have done something useful with himself, but wanted to be a cowboy, getting his kicks in an incredibly destructive way, as part of an invading force. To me this is exactly like dropping out of school and normal society, to become a heroin dealer or gang member, relying on protection money. Some people do take that way. I'm just saying let's not sugar coat that utter shit with words like "service". He chose to ruin other people's lives for a living, and I do hope he meets an IED. Shouldn't have been there. Wow, didn't you say you worked for a bank a few years back? Howcome it's okay for YOU to do that kind of work but not for anybody else? Talk about practicing what you preach.
Most soldiers just sign up for random jobs and never fight in any war, only certain select groups do. A lot of people who are sent to fight don't want to fight. I have heard of cases where men will fake injuries, or women will deliberately become impregnated, to avoid getting sent to war. Why is your hate directed at soldiers and not say, the engineers who help construct weaponry and missiles for Boeing or Northrop Grumman?
so then, according to you, the workers of walmart should be blamed for how walmart runs its operations.
the soldiers did not go there of their own accord. they went because somebody sent them there. they did not shoot at their own free will. they shot when instructed to. ever heard that saying "it is the old and the rich that wage war, but it is the young and the poor that are sent off to die in battle." if people ceased to enlist for the military, the military would simply enact a draft again. as a matter of fact, i hope that the draft comes back. because THEN maybe people would FINALLY start paying attention to politics again. with you living in a metropolitan area, you have destroyed land and resources by simply existing, not to mention contributed to corporate exploitation by working for some of the places you did. ya poser :p
I would have done the same thing. Me personally, I want the experience of tragedy. War is the most devastating and intense experience out there, it is more traumatic than child abuse, surviving a plane crash, having your spouse die, being raped... If I survive, I would have come back to write a book about it.

This is the thread that never ends.op is not going to see that if he lives in this world, his simple existence contributes to war.
But he sells little digital bits of happiness over the internet and is immune to all this coruption.Oh wait, didn't the us military 'build' the internet?

That was for a few months, and it was simply out of ignorance. Once I figured out how banking really works, I hightailed out of there. I don't think there's much more I could have done.
They're not much better actually, but at least you don't hear people saying shit like "God bless our weapons manufacturers" and other sentimental crap that you hear about the troops. Still a fucked up profession.
No, but if workers see a company like say, Monsanto, that's been wildly abusive with both people and the environment for decades, and then knowing this they still show up for an interview there, then yes they should be blamed. The only possible excuse might be ignorance, but that doesn't really apply if shit has been going on for decades, in plain sight. With the US military, it has. The wars overseas didn't start last month, there's a long track record available to anybody that wants to see it, and it ain't pretty.
DEA agents get sent to do the most ridiculous fucked up immoral shit to perfectly normal people, ruining lives over a fucking herb. Knowing that, any herb lover will know what to do. Cross the DEA off the list of jobs they consider doing. By the same token, if the US military is wildly out of control, sucking the cock of corporate interests, any decent human being should know what to do. Don't participate, don't enlist. The same way you stay out of porn, Monsanto, robbing people on the street for money, the exact same way you can draw the line and say no, I won't earn my bread with a fucking rifle, being ordered around by corporate whores to wherever there's the most stuff to steal.

I'm with you #1 , i've posted similar opinions on here in the past and the sheer amount of ignorant little bitches is astounding for a forum full of people who gathered over the love of shrooms...
troops are murderers any way you slice it. There is no good reason to be proud of being in the military since 99% of those that signed up was because they sucked so hard at life that it was their "only option". Pathetic excuses don't quite cut it though. It's basically suicide that you get paid for. But barely any better.

it wont be that long before most wars will be fought by robots and remote control machines .
making it much easier to wipe out thousands without all the psychological issues that come from front line soldiers . technology will ensure that there will be no peace .
