Bob Dylan's 72nd birthday! * 1
    #18314635 -

In honor, I think you all know what you need to do. We don't want Bob to feel so all alone

Thanks for the info man.  I remember seeing a couple of my favorite actors in a Dylan movie 5 or 6 years ago.  Had to go to a hole in the wall art festival type deal to see it, but it was pretty good.  Good ol' real soul stuff.  None of this steroid enhanced blockbuster stuff.  Not that I don't enjoy a blockbuster every once in ah ile.  Avengers!

Good for bob.  He still can't sing.

can we all agree that he just needs to stop.  he was an excellent musician don't get me wrong.

but there comes a point where it's just sad, he's like a feeble shaking parkinsons having shadow of his formal self.

ok i made up the parkinsons

I was recently given a reggae compilation CD of different reggae artists covering Bob Dylan songs. It's really awesome. Called "Is it rolling Bob?"

you mean you're pumped to see the feeble shadow of his old self hardly mumble-foaming at the mouth with his old age barely hold a tune that is indecipherable from any other language.  he has developed his own strain of english called bob-dylanism

meanwhile his stage presence is completely shot due to him turning 107 next year

i'd say buy the record an PASS. IT'S GONNA BE SHITE.

same with pink floyd.  all the shit they have going on now is just roger waters with a team of special effects artists and people who are trying their best to sound like the original members

both of these acts have lost their touch and i highly recommend getting into  a newer band with a better vibe that is more in touch with today's culture.

100% sorry bro but that's my honest opinion.

fuck bob dylan and fuck pink floyd.

even though both of them (in the past) have been safely within my top 10 favs

To clarify, I'm going because My Morning Jacket is my favorite current band and I'm really liking Wilco. Bob Dylan was shit on stage as far back as 89 with the Dead. I'm still happy to be able to claim I saw Bobby D.

I saw him open for Phil and Friends back in probably 99. His performance was less then stellar, but yeah- at least I can say I saw one of the legends of our times.

I'm sure you'll have a fantastic time.

Never have I heard such bullshit in my entire life, today's music has no culture it's just a bunch of bleeps and bloops with an angry black guy or nerdy white kid rapping at you or even worse revivalist rock music that basically steals their shit from greats like Bob.

While I think Bob Dylan's songs are timeless (@NWlight --certainly not his singing), I will say to you Murph that you haven't put enough effort into finding current music that has substance to it, because it's definitely around. It just takes some digging, as it did in the 60s. There is always a surface layer of pop music for every era that you have to go under to find gold. Some recs:

My Morning Jacket
Deerhunter
Fleet Foxes
Kurt Vile
Animal Collective
The Flaming Lips
Monsters of Folk (Jim James, Bright Eyes, M.Ward)
Sound Tribe Sector 9
Sigur Ros

Flaming lips are great but they have been around for over 30 years they aren't a new band by any stretch of the imagination.

Okay, but they're making music that is different from their previous albums, making them an innovative & current band. The Grateful Dead aren't exclusively a 60s band because they started out then. They were still making new sounds in the 80s..

What's the difference between listening to a new album from a band 30 years ago and listening to a new Dylan album? His music is still different from his early work, from what I've read the posters in this thread are throwing him under the bus for making new music that's different from the 60's stuff.
Also if you don't like Bob Dylan's voice you really missed the point.
