Using family member address for car insurance?

It's a wrap for my current car and I want to purchase a new car. Have the money but what's killing me is the insurance I live in a city (though I plan to purchase a spot in a garage). The insurance could be as much as or even more than my monthly car note. I want to use a family members address but is it too risky?

I probably won't be moving from my current spot for another year.

I would ask the family member first. It is a grade A dick move to use someone elses address for something without their permission.

No of course I wouldn't use their address without their permission. But my main concern is that I just want to make sure I'm not exposing them to any legal reprecussions.

Only thing I could think of legally is if you got in an accident that you ran from, if they got your license plate. Also, depending on what state you live in, I think your Driver's license address should match your insurance address if you get pulled over. You could attempt the old, "I just moved" excuse, but that only works for so long.

I don't think you'll cause any problems for your relative.  I'd say use whatever address you want (and have permission to use).  I wonder how much cheaper insurance would be though - I doubt it would be much different.

Definitely check progressive, esurance and geico for quotes.

No I would get everything changed to that address. Like my neighbor has their car registered in an entirely different state. It's my dad's address whom I see pretty consistently 4 times a week give or take. 

The price difference paying 2000 and change in a year or paying 4000 and change a year. It's a pretty big difference and even purchasing parking it makes no difference to the price.

Generally it is a bad idea. Insurance companies are notorious for refusing to pay a claim because application for insurance was filed with false statements.
They pay many people just to dig this shit up.
