One of my favorite trees is the Golden Rain tree. Its called such because it produces these clusters of little pods, that are this really beautiful golden color when they are done maturing. I've only seen the one in my front yard, and i don't understand why no one else has them because they are so amazing. I don't have any pictures of one right now, but i do have a picture of a cool tree down the street from me. I think you will enjoy it much like I do =].

I have yet to find a tree that isn't beautiful, but I thought the great california redwoods ...

I really like the trees that grow on the west coast like douglas fir and cedar trees. I especially like the old growth forests where all the trees are huge, unfortunately theres not many places where the old growth forests are common only a few parks and protected areas. its a shame really..

I agree with Turd. The Cali. redwoods are awesome, but my fave would have to be a Japenese Maple. All trees are great and we should never take them for granted.You guys are great. If I tried to talk to anyone else I know about trees they would probably call me a tree huggin' hippie or something lame to that extent.

I love all trees, but I am partial to any tree over 200 years old. There is this huge willow oak (over 28' circumference, and third largest of its species in South Carolina) that has to be at least 200 years old. Our family would spend many a summer day having cookouts under its expansive shade. My cousin and I would catch fence lizards running up and down the trunk, and we would sit in the giant branches and chew tobacco.
I have known this great tree since I was a child, and it has a special place in my heart. Sadly, a terrible windstorm has basically broken it in half (I cried all day when I saw it), so after we clean up the wood, we are going to cut the tree down. I am going to root some cuttings, and I have made a walking stick out of one of the smaller branches. I am also going to take a picture of this majestic oak and post it as my avatar.
This topic kinda reminds me of the book about the apple tree, does anyone remember it? That book always makes me cry.

big trees are nice, but there is this one tree i planted as a young weakling sprout and watched it grow.  for the first year it was kind of limp and falling over and just overall it didn't look very happy or healthy.  i kept on watering and giving it food...and love too. :smile: after about a year of looking sickly and weak, it started to come alive!  the leaves became greener, the main stalk became thicker and more rugged, and she started to thank me for my efforts....

it is a lemon tree and ever since it got it's foundation set, it has been rewarding me nonstop.  i wasn't aware such a YOUNG fruit tree could put out so much fruit.  when this tree flowers, it becomes full of small white flowers that smell so sweet and fragrant.  soon enough, all those little flowers stop hiding the baby lemon they have been fattening up.  after going unnoticed for a while, fat little lemons appear out of no where weighing the the small limbs down.  a few are just now ripening up and this is the third wave of fruit this year!  i'm not sure of the flowering cycles for citrus trees, but i was not expecting so much from such a tree.

these lemons are no ordinary lemons you would see at the market though.  they are SO powerfully sweet (kinda like candy) and UN-sour, it's unbelievable!  just the smell of the pungent rind on these lemons makes your mouth water.  they're some of the juiciest lemons and the weight of one surprises me, unusually heavy for such small but plump fruit.  a citrus delight!

I've really enjoyed the posts and pictures in this thread, trees are truly wonderful and so are the people of the pub.

Well here is a picture of a tree on the grounds of Malahide castle, Dublin Ireland. I don't know the species but the tree itself is stellar.


And here is a picture of a very famous tree lover taken in Snowdon, Wales. This is J.R.R. Tolkien, I had hoped to find the picture of him with his favorite tree on the Oxford university grounds, it was an ancient oak or yew and was published in his biography, but I couldn't find the image on the net.

these trees are massive!  i like that one from ireland..

here's that baby lemon tree i was talking about.  it's only about as tall as my knees too.  i planted it right in the middle of the yard :laugh:  can't wait till she grows 10 feet tall!

ever heard of plumeria or the fragrance plumeria? alot of chicks slather themselves up with plumeria lotion from the lotion stores...plumerias also make up leis..the little flower necklace thing. they smell really strong and they explode in bloom all over the tree. sometimes, i would come home at night and the whole neighborhood smells of perfume.

this thread could have existed there.

peppered with pictures of other types of *wood*, perhaps.

but existed nonetheless.

I don't know if anyone here has ever been to balboa park in
san diego, but there, behind the natural history museum and
in front of that little spanish art center there is this ENORMOUS
tree...with giant wide low limbs.

I remember spending all sorts of time just hanging and climbing
all over that tree as a kid, going to the merry-go-round by
the zoo...that was a great tree.
