Here's an mp3 from David Cross's 2000 HBO stand up comedy special called "The Pride Is Back".
He really gives it to High Times magazine here for being too "juvenile". I don't think High Times is juvenile, I just think it's just less serious than say Cannabis Culture is.
Then he makes fun of them for an article they had called "Who Really Killed MLK". He thinks it's ridiculous that High Times thinks that they have information that the mainstream media doesn't. I think he misses the point here. See, the truth about who killed MLK is out there, and only a counter culture magazine like High Times would put the pieces together. It's not that High Times somehow has information that others don't.
Personally my only beef with High Times is that they allow those "Wizard Smoke" fake weed companies to advertise in their magazine.

Here's another clip of David Cross from HBO's "Mr. Show".
The clip is about two musicians who are competing for a "Tear Drop Award". They play clips of both singers songs and David Cross's charactor wins the award. In the midst of a celebratory gesture he accidentally throws the pointed award into the crowd, lodging it into the chest of his competitors son. Both singers write songs about the boy and at the "Tear Drop Awards" the next year both singers win. The boys father who also wins takes the award and plunges it into David's chest. Then they play David's song that he had prepared in the event of his own death.

Even though I don't really agree with his opinions about High Times, that clip cracks me UP. "Ddd jew see April's "Bud Of The Month" man?" lol

Most of the political articles in High Times are written by people who don't really know what the fuck they're talking about, and I think that's a lot of what David Cross was talking about.
How come High Times would be better at putting the pieces together?
I find that a lot of the time the reason that people believe in conspiracy theories and the like is because they want to. Not because the evidence points overwhelmingly in that direction.
The staff at High Times are not trained historians, researchers, or even necessarily intelligent.

Do you believe that weed should be legal?
Well it should be, and the truth as to why is out there.
Mainstream media will not put those pieces together for all to see.
The same goes with the killing of MLK. Only a counter culture magazine would put the pieces together.
