Any tapers out there?

With my love of music, I want to be able to expand my involvement by doing amateur recordings of concerts that I go to if it's allowed.

There's been many times when I want to re-watch/listen a concert I went to in the past, but a lot of the times, the only thing I can find is a shitty recording that was taken from a flip camera and it's all shaky.

So are there any tapers that are out there that could give a little helpful info for an aspiring taper?

Things like what I'd need for a semi-cheap starter setup would help!

my brother use to do that a bit
id get a tripod to avoid the shakeyness & a detachable microphone to add to your camera for better sound
alot of venues have open space where the average person doesnt/cant stand for the show,ask someone working at the venue about an open are to film from before filming
(also i would probably call & make sure filming is allowed before showing up with your camera & tripod)
ps- alot of thrift shops often have used tripods for about $5
wish i could say the same for finding a nice microphone

I was looking at recordings from other tapers, but a lot of them use expensive equipment which I just frankly can't afford.

I did see though that a lot of tapers used sony pcm-m10 somewhere in the recording process, and I thought that it'd be a great place to start at along with a tripod like you suggested. What I think the tapers did though was take a higher quality mic and then run that to the sony pcm-m10, but I'm not quite too sure

craigslist is always a good place for cheap equipment

got myself over $200 worth of guitar equipment for $55 through craigslist over the last 2 weeks (everything in perfect condition too)

If your sole purpose is relistenability, you can get free soundboards for every show for the bands you mentioned.

Yeah, I knew that, I was just tossing out some band favorites there for the hell of it. But a lot of the concerts I go to are in small club venues, so to find a taper at one of the smaller shows I go to would be a rare sight. There's so many talented musicians out there that perform live with such energy, it's a shame that they don't get recorded/noticed. Live performances of bands are better than studio recordings imo. An example is Trevor Hall. His band had some good guitar, drum, and bass solos that went unrecorded when I went and saw him.

Plus archiving all the concerts I've gone to would be awesome. One day I'll be able to re-live a concert I went to...say 15 years ago.
