You've probably been asked this before, but can you please describe your fascination with Rube Goldberg machines?

This.

In addition: could you reflect on the surface roughness and density of the material the ideal Rube Goldberg machine ball is made out of?

That's like saying what's the ideal tool for building a house. You need a bunch.

Gonna get to the other doozy question in a bit.

I am fascinated by the fundamentals that compose the essence of Rube Goldberg machines and to some extent Animation (which I consider them an aspect of)

-Motion

I love to find all the possible "dances" or "ocular notation" so to speak, when you let an object connect with the physical forces such as gravity, friction, momentum, wet, dry, etc. The motion of interaction so to speak.

-Connections, just as one animation frame suggests the next, I love how varied the connections can be. And this isn't primarily a connection based off the machine itself, it can be something purely visual, or words next to an object, or just an object/paintin gin the backround. My machines I have always conisdered "A collage that moves and exists and time"

Life and Death-All sequences must end or die. Sometimes they come to a rest, go off the track in a violent fashion, or melt. I consider the cadence, or death sequence of objects beautiful in their own right (for instance, the way a roing gear may gently tip to the side after use) And further more the life of the next object primarily relies on the death of the former. I like how motion and the stopping of motion have equal say in the matter with this art form.

Aesthetics-This is a large area, which deals with how you move the camera, visual style, lighting, etc. I love aesthetics but do not consider myself entirely traditional. One may say my machines look junky, I say they are very distinctive, done so intentionally. Anyway, if you are into aesthetics, there are a lot of things to consider here.

Other reasons include:

I love building things and architecture. I love seeing how many times I can do something different with the same thing (which is kind of like animation) I like doing things that tae a lot of time to complete, (like animation or details) Many objects in the machines also reflect different time periods in my progression, some are bizarre objects,  but the idea is to have a community of objects, all different, but working towards the same goal. Recycling is important to me. I like to entertain.

hmmm there is probably more. but thats it for now, any questions or other thangs?

thank you for asking!

Check this out. You need to incorporate Mexican Jumping Beans in your next machine.
