hygrometer - digital versus analog

Hello all,

well, so far everyone's advice has helped my donkey (Arnie) fully colonize 4 BRF jars successfully and 8 others are almost there. No contams! So Arnie placed one cold-dunked cake into his fruiting chamber tonight - now he has two hygrometers, one digital and one analog. Both were on the cheap end of the price range relative to other hygrometers of the same kind. Now the digital is saturated (it seems to crap out after 90%), while the analog barely reads 85% and won't go higher. I have heard of calibrating the analog one using salt, but I'm not sure this crappy one has anything to adjust and it'll probably just break. In any case - anyone have any experience with hygrometers? Which one should Arnie trust?

I trust that my digital one is somewhere in the right range.

If you do casings humidity doesn't need to be monitored so rigidly.

yeah no casing yet - do you mean just simple dual vermiculite layer or more advanced?

You may not be able to adjust it, but calibrating it can give an idea of a sort of curve to use when reading it.

My friend did his share of reasearch on this and found Oregon Scientific can handle long term exposure to the high humidity. He call the tech support and they confirmed that these units can withstand being put into the Grow Chamber like environments for extendend periods.They even asked for a few caps.........kidding
