First Date-I am Cooking-Dinner Ideas
    #14897181 -

I am cooking dinner for our first real date on Thursday.  I am a great cook, I just feel a little stumped about what to make.

Does anyone have any ideas for great dinners to cook for a first date?  It doesn't really matter what, but she requested something sorta healthy, and I am not a huge fan of noodles...

Thanks!

Second the chicken parm. Whatever you do, make sure there's a side salad.

make something light, that you are sure you can pull off, and doesnt keep you tied up in the kitchen. Remember this isnt about dinner or eating, this is about getting to know someone and spend some time with them.

tabouli
hummus/baba ghanous
flatbread
a grilled marinated chicken breast
fresh cantaloupe
a few olives and feta

you can even cheat and grill the chicken breast ahead of time and serve it cold sliced.

encourage eating with the hands, its sensual and will do alot to break down tensions.

heavy foods like fried foods etc do not inspire conversation or bumpin uglies on a first date. they also will put the scent of fried food in your house which isnt sexy either.

i recommend Nobilo Sauvignon Blanc with the above mentioned dinner...it'll run you a whole 12 dollars a bottle. A good pinot grigio would be ok too.

If you want to push the alcohol later....have someone help you pick out a great proseco...and spend a little money on it. its great for summertime and is very romantic.

That's spectacular advice on the meal. It makes so much sense. I feel uber enlightened now. :super:

I might follow your lead here.  Light, healthy, good.  Sounds great to me.  Thanks for the advice!

Either that, or try to make sushi, I just think it would be fun at least.  Sorta on a budget though...

Italian food is a really good dinner, but if you plan on doing anything afterwards you definitely don't want Italian food breath.  Too much garlic and too many strong flavors.

Yeah, Italian is a staple in my diet and usually my go to but  We both work at an italian-ish restaurant.  I don't want it to reek of work.  lol

I bid; fried salmon or shrimp, sauteed portabella, steamed veggies, some leafy greens, and mashed potatos or rice.  And a fruit juice.

Eww don't do fish.  Especially if you don't know she likes it.  Many people (like myself) absolutely hate fish, and it could ruin your night.

Sushi takes a bit of practice to master the rice. Whatever you cook, dont overextend yourself.

heres another summer menu that might work for you

wild rice

wedge salad with scallion dressing, bacon crumbles, dried cranberries and toasted almonds

grilled chicken breast

cornbread (use a mix, protip add some sour cream or yogurt to replace some of the milk and dont overmix..lumpy is fine for prefab cornbread)

fresh fruit ( cantaloupe is good right now, peaches and plums are starting to get good)

most of that you can have ready ahead of time, including the rice.
and you should be able to come in under 25 dollars for the meal.

good luck.

We are not exactly "new" together.  This is just the first "date" we have had.  Been just hanging out for a while.  She likes sushi, she told me.  But, I asked if she wanted to get sushi sometime for lunch or whatever, so I might just hold onto that for my in for the second date.  Still think it would be fun to make together though...

I thought a shrimp dish would be great, but if I did that I would BBQ it, and she doesn't have a BBQ.  Maybe I can think of something to go along with the Mediterranean theme Greys suggested.

Mediterranean shrimp anybody?

Grey- I am a professional cook and avid amateur chef.  I don't think there is much beyond my culinary grasp.  I am just looking for new ideas cause I am tired of what I know.  I want it to be special for both of us.

I like your salad idea too...!!!

I have faith that you can make sushi rice, but sushi rice takes practice to get right- and you want to focus on her- not fanning rice.

I remember the first 2-3 times I made sushi rice.

like epoxy.

Today's only Wednesday. She'll only be coming tomorrow, right? So stoked!!

Obviously, greysRDbest's advice in his first post is absolutely vital: don't get tied up in the kitchen. For that reason alone, I'd personally make lasagna. Make it one day in advance (so start tonight, haha), so you only have to put it into the oven. While you're sipping a glass of red wine, the heavenly smells of home-made lasagna fills the house.

Yeah, tomorrow is the day!  Going to get my recipes together and maybe prep a few things, but we are going shopping together and I will make her be my little chopper monkey

I make a kick ass lasagna!  Key; there is never too much sauce because much gets absorbed and there is never too much cheese.  I like grilling off zucchini, squash and eggplant in thin strips to make layers with for veggie lasagna.

I think I am going with Greys first instinct here guys.  I like it cause its fresh, cool, light, and out of the ordinary.  In place of the chicken, I am gonna do some big prawns chilled with mint, olive oil, lemon, l and I don't know what else yet...

And when its all said and done...  :bigkiss:  :headboard:  :boobs:  :doggystyle:

Thanks guys for the ideas they are all good and I am sure I will use them all in the future...
