It's like a mild version of opium that is readily available on the side of almost any highway.

It's the milky latex substance collected from several species of Lactuca once they have begun flowering.
Different species vary in potency. Lactuca virosa is supposed to be the most desirable; though unfortunately it's not too common in my area. I mostly collect from Lactuca serriola, which grows practically everywhere around here.

I actually just came back from harvesting some from culinary lettuce. It's my first time trying lactucarium from a culinary species so I'm interested to see how the potency is. I test tasted the milk, and it was still fairly bitter, so there are certainly actives in it. 

I've been working on different techniques for getting larger amounts with relative ease. I feel like today, I found the best technique yet. Spent maybe 30 minutes, and I've got about two times as much as I normally would; and I imagine as I become more adjusted to the new technique, the quantity collected vs. time spent collecting will only increase.

I'm probably gonna make a video explaining the technique within the next few days.

You can smoke it, or eat it. I like a combination of both.
It smells uniquely floral, and tastes quite pleasant.

My foreman at work/buddy is growing some opium poppies in his bar yard he's milking, I'm pretty pumped to try some of that shit out.

Nice.
I took a dried glob about the size of a bb pellet and let it dissolve inside my mouth. 15 minutes later and I'm feeling nicely relaxed and mildly euphoric; so it looks like Lactuca sativa is about as potent as serriola, maybe more potent. I'm also very sensitive to changes in my perception, so it'd probably take a larger amount for someone else.
The nice thing about sativa is it doesn't have the spikes on the underside of the leaves that can make it a bitch to work with, like serriola does.

Clean off the fingertips on one of your hands. You're going to be using these fingers to collect the latex so you don't want to contaminate with any grime.
Tear the leaf horizontally, a little bit down from the tip, with your other hand (it will get dirt on it).
Do this to maybe five leaves, and then give the leaves a few seconds to produce little droplets of the milky latex.

Then take your fingertips and collect the droplets onto them.
Have a clean blade on hand, and scrape the layer of milky latex off of your fingertips and onto the blade.

With this technique, you can harvest latex from a single leaf several times, by tearing it further and further up the leaf.

You will notice that certain leaves produce significantly more latex. Though I haven't found a pattern yet, so it seems to be hit or miss at the moment.

I'll make a video explaining it better, with tips to make it easier.

Lactuca virosa grows around here and I have attempted to harvest some of the milky latex but was getting such a minuscule amount I kinda gave up on it. The method you described with tearing the leafs and using your finger tips & blade sounds a bit more effective than what I was doing.




Definitely a plant I'm gonna have to return to....

Combining a decent dose of Lactucarium seems to make the tiniest amount of opium fairly strong.

yeah man, opium lettace ftw



I use to make tea from the opium i made from the plant by boiling it , then straining and boiling it to leave the goop.

Do you like the effects? i dont feel much but it does relax me a whole heap


I dont know how to tell the differnce from Lactuca serriola and virosa. Virosa is told to be the only one with opium that produces effects

Serriola has small prickly thorns on the underside of the leaf, and the overall shape of the leaves is different. I've only gotten to try lactucarium from virosa a few times, but serriola is active as well, from my experience.

There are two types here. The virosa looking ones has oval leafs like it should, but as they get older they get a slight scariola look to the leafs. Where as the other type is full blown prickly jagged leaves.


Both have prickles on the stems and under the leafs. The first one doesnt have as much though

Its not really worth it IMO.

I've smoked it before and you need loads to get a really mild effect. 

Even opium is not worth milking IMO.  Just make poppy tea its far easier and you get to use all the alkaloids.
