Oh, on another note, you give too much credit to 'digital audio masters engineers'.

No I don't.
You're ignorant of the amount of work needing to be done in the post-process in order to create a professional album.

Most musicians are ignorant as well.
You don't have to know shit about audio science to be an amazing musician.

Getting a little high and mighty there huh?

You give too much credit.  I never said there's no work in it, but you're acting like the real art is in the digital mastering.  :lolsy:

I never said that, I was just mentioning the effort necessary as most aren't really aware. Sorry if you misinterpreted my message.

dubstep is the shiiiit! it's spawning lots of great artists that aren't 'dubstep' per se as well.  If you don't think dubstep is good maybe try some stuff like james blake and work backwards from that:

OK so I was at this rave and they started playing dubstep at one stage.  I was rolling pretty hard so anything should be good but man let me tell you dubstep isn't even good if you're rolling.

It doesn't take a subwoofer to recognize derivative and boring music

dubstep without bass is a complete fail. it's like drum and bass without snare. youre missing at least 50% of the experience without the low end sounds.

Obviously but you're assuming I don't appreciate low end sounds, which I do.

Bass is fucking amazing, and essential to music in general imho

but still the majority of dubstep is still garbage derivative music. they even use this excuse you're citing to write garbage music based around how GRIMY THE WOBBLEZ R BRAH THOSE SUB TONEZ

Dubstep doesn't have to have a wobble.
That song is definitely dubstep.

It's structurally dissimilar to everything I've known as dubstep so far

Nevermind the lack of wobblez, I realise that

2step and dub influences with heavy electronic overtones? I don't see the split in similarities.

Well if this is dubstep then it's a good example what a stupid practice it is trying to pidgeonhole music into stupid genres and sub genres where it hardly fits.

This song has a ton of different genre influences not limited to just "dubstep"

It's not an apt description whatsoever
