I actually had an English teacher who would talk about Ireland and the IRA a lot. He said in one part of the country he would be welcomed with open arms, given free drinks and such - in the other part he'd be searched for weapons and generally treated like shit because of his last name (Dougherty I believe). He had lots of family from both sides who were killed, his family even kept a book for all of the people over time from their side who died in the war. I always found it interesting that, from what I've read, the IRA usually don't go for casualties but more just the statement/damage of the explosion. On the news not too long ago I saw the Queen visited Ireland for the first time ever, suppose they are really trying to end the whole IRA/Protestant/Catholic thing. I don't know too much about the Troubles, though. Seems like it has calmed down recently. A lot of religious bullshit but what isn't in this world..

Ireland should just issue a world-wide apology for U2 and I'm sure that England would gladly give over North Ireland.
