Studying for my CSCS credential

CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist)

I finally got hold of the first book in the NSCA's study plan for the CSCS exam!!

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Essentials-of-Strength-Training-and-Conditioning-3rd-Edition/NSCA-National-Strength-Conditioning-Association/e/9780736058032

I knew that this book was going to be more than just lifts and health and it totally is! I am only on chapter one and I am already making flashcards. I have found out how deep this exam will really get.

I am currently learning about the macrostructure and microstructure of muscles. The muscle belly, made up of bundles of muscle fibers to form fasciculi, the sing muscle fiber, the myofibrils that exist inside muscle fibers, the myofilaments that make up myofibrils and the smallest contractile unit of skeletal muscle, the sacromere. And then it goes in depth to show how a sacromere is made up.

I have to admit that the facts in this book are alot to take in but I am still loving it!

I honestly think it may take me 4 months to get through this book. Though I think that is normal considering this is definatly college level material.

I looked through the contents of the book and I cant wait to read about age and sex related differences and their implications for resistance exercise, psychology of athletic preparations and performance, nutritional factors in health and performance, and many more!

After this book the NSCA recomends that I read 2 more books, use a workbook, and implement a learning DVD and audio CD. This is intenese!

It is definatly a great thing when you find something you love and challenge yourself with it. Each chapter in this book is like a set of deadlifts! 1 rep at a time, 1 page at a time! haha

That is a nice goal. It is so true too. I wish I had a mentor when I first started. I made so many dumb mistakes. Are you going to take the CSCS exam? Maybe we could stay in touch and help eachother out if you are.
