fear of not being rejected
    #13963737 -

Lately I fear not being rejected much more than I fear being rejected. Ive become comfortable with being rejected and very much used to it.
If I get rejected i can say i tried, go home, mope for a bit, rub one off and call it a night. I can then talk to people about that rejection and be a sympathy whore.
If I DONT get rejected its like WTF do I do then? I have to make a good impression now? It freaks me out!

I only go for girls who i KNOW will flake out on me, reject me or just ignore me all together.
If I think a girl is a for sure thing i fear her like the plague.

Sorry to have to ask this.. but you're not trolling, right?

This is a serious issue for you?

What is it that you fear about succeeding?

You say you go for girls you know will flak out... you're saying this is a conscious choice? And how would you chose such girls?

There is no need to troll here. Anon 2 had valid questions.

Anon 3 made a post that has no point other than to amuse themselves or harrass the OP.

Let's behave like adults here, please.

actually, there's a method to my madness... by triggering an emotional response in the OP, i can break down any barrier of inhibition. this allows the OP to face the facts in the cold, as opposed to hiding behind his safety net of excuses. my post was a catalyst.

I see some vague psychological validity in the general NOTION of what you describe, however:

1- Please do tell me what you hoped to accomplish by this, really:

A:  In which way do you think op is inhibited?
B:  You seem to have a good understanding of this. What are the facts that the OP needs to face?
C:  Assume you succeeded in breaking this inhibition-- what good would come of this?

2- While provoking someone like that can produce a "response" it is not necessarily going to be a positive one. You are using an untested and not-entirely-approved psychological "method" as though you were a trained professional, to "trreat" someone that you don't know....

...this is, in fact, what you are claiming to do, correct?

If you can't answer the questions in part 1 you are undoubtedly a troll.

If you confirm part 2, you admit to doing something very unsafe and possibly criminal.

If you deny part 2, you seem like a troll and a liar.

Just saying.

I dunno man, anon 3 makes a decent point.  There is no other logical explanation as to why someone would fear rejection less than not being rejected; as a part of development we take rejection and use it to build up our guard in order to actually get women to see the confidence within one's self and accept a personal invitation rather than reject one.  What the OP is saying is backwards UNLESS his sexual interest is not really with women.

Look OP, when you get a girl to say yes, all you can do from there is what they do in the movies: get close, feel her up, kiss her a little, and hopefully you have made her randy enough to want to go downstairs and give your little man a tug.  Either you are gay or terribly inexperienced and uncomfortable when it comes to females.

Just know this: when a chick says yes, it is your job to show her that she made the right decision.

I avoid the ones who seem desperate, slightly ugly or obsessed with me and go for the ones that seem stuck up, outta my league and like they wouldnt give me the time of day.

What I fear about succeeding is that Id have to go out of my way to be something Im not and make a good impression.

Ive had sex quite a few times with girls and enjoyed it, that was in the days before i started fearing not being rejected.

Most of it is actually linked to social anxiety and agoraphobia. Im terrified of people (male or female). Im still very attracted to girls and would like a girlfriend but my intense anxiety makes this impossible. Obviously my anxiety doesnt stem from fear of rejection but something much deeper which I cant understand. I have no problem getting close feeling up, etc but have a problem getting to that point as I only pursue women who will reject me.

To sum it all up: Im heterosexual and have sexual experience. I have performance anxiety because Im not as virile as I once was and am terrified of succeeding and not being the man I used to be. I still want to think of myself as having the prowess I had years ago.

Glad you checked back in. Thanks for elaborating--that makes things easier.

This clarifies your OP a lot.

You do know there are girls out there who would like you for who you really are, right? Girls with whom you wouldn't have to put on a facade? Or is it that you haven't found any of THOSE girls that you, personally, are attracted to?

Not all of those girls (aka "good matches") will not be "ugly" "desperate," or "obssessed," with you.

And that is one other thing I wanted to mention/ask.  What do you mean when you say that girls are obsessed with you? (I'm taking here the implication that you've met someone in the past who was otherwise good for you but seemed "obsessive" as you see it.) What do you consider obsessing over you?

Or another consideration-- take the obsessive behavior you were just thinking of, and apply it to one of these "other" high-maintenance girls. Does it still bother you, coming from them?

I'm sorry to seem presumptuous, but the issues you mention above seem to be related to one other thing that I think is its own problem.  I'm going to edit one of your statements, to point out the part (of your own words) that I think addresses a big issue here:

This, unfortunately, is a snake eating its own tail. At some point you became unconfident and concerned that you could not perform to your potential (something you're probably proud of--hell, I know I am

The anxiety about this, however, comes out when you are in the worst possible moment--the moment where you either prove or disprove your fear. But the bitch is that the fear (if you let it) will then hurt your performance, reinforcing the fear, and making the next time even harder on you. (or not so hard, as the case may be)

It is a perpetuating cycle.

Do you have problems with oral?

I've always liked knowing that I was good at cunnilingus, so that if anything ever happened to impair me (maybe I drink too much, or shoot too fast) then I know I have something in my arsenal that can still get her off pretty hard. When she's trembling in a puddle of her own fluids, barely able to speak, neither of you will be thinking about your temporary setback.

Herbal supplements-- ginkgo biloba, niacin, arginine supplements (often sold as nitric oxide boosters), are a couple natural options, and then, of course, there are meds.

If the problem lies more along other lines--practice makes perfect. I taught myself ejaculatory control and a number of other neat tricks by reading books like The Multi-Orgasmic Man. (I actually read that one when I was just starting, thank god for that. haha)

It also helps to have the kind of partner that is open-minded, understanding, and comfortable with their own sexuality. If you get one of those, she'll be more willing to work through things with you, even if you feel uncomfortable sometimes.

Anyway, hope that helped in some way.

Oh, I wanted to add to my last post (for anyone interested..):

For those of you who do have issues with "virility" in the physical sense, but do not have insurance or whatnot... there are actual medications still available...

I'll give you a hint: I'm sure you've seen some of those products advertised with names like "Herbal Green Viagra" Well... those are about as "herbal" as the "herbal smoking blends" like spice and K2.

There are, in fact, viagra analogues. I have rarely seen them sold in pure form, but some places do sell tablets, and they are most commonly sold as "herbal" viagra.

I've had a problem similar to this since the start of high school. Before high school soccer (when i realized i sucked), and high school girls (when i didn't have them all flocking to me like in middle school), I was so amazingly confident in EVERYTHING I did.  School work, conversations with girls, meeting new people, sports, etc; I was just a frigin super hero.  As I started to succeed less and less I found after time I put myself in a position to fail, I guess so I would know I was gonna fail instead of getting crushed by it.  I was very outwardly unconfident, though i would never admit it because in my mind I still had to be the super hero i thought i was.

Tell me if this situation sounds familiar:
My first date with a girl a year ago(who would later become my only long term girlfriend) ended with us both on the couch in my basement. I knew she liked me, and I actually kinda liked her, and things were a go.  It got awkwardly silent and it was time for us to start kissing, but instead I paniced and said i had to go upstairs for a bit. (where i got her sister, who was dating my best friend, to let her no i wasn't interested).  I went back down and she asked me what was up, and i told her it wasn't gonna work out. The reasons i came up with were that she was too boring and awkward and there was just no way it could happen.. she left my house crying.

but the next day i got really drunk and i told her i was scared of success and im used to being rejected and i didn't know what to do after not being rejected. Although she was pretty skeptical, she agreed to go out again. Admittedly i got at least a little drunk almost every time we hung out for the first month until i manned up.
