At What Point Would You Snitch? (a hypothetical scenario)

So let's imagine that you've become involved in the drug trade as a mid-level dealer.  You buy large amounts of marijuana/whichever drug you prefer from a trusted source and sell split up portions of it to your street-level connections who, in turn, are selling it to the actual drug users.  You've been involved in the trade for years, business is good and you're making quite a substantial profit.

Then, one day, you are woken up at 3 AM by the booming crash of a battering ram against your front door and the forcible entrance of a swarm of DEA and SWAT officers.  Against the protestations of your wife and little children you are thrown on the ground, handcuffed and taken to jail.  You call your lawyer and after the usual hassle and days of waiting you are finally offered a deal by the DEA: you can tell them who your source is and give enough incriminating information to send him away to prison for a very long time, or you can refuse to snitch and spend 30 years locked away yourself.  Upon consultation with your lawyer you find out that what they're saying is essentially true: if you refuse to give up your source then you WILL be spending almost a third of your total life in prison and miss the best years of your children growing up and the company of your wife.  You were always very careful to the point of paranoia while involved in the drug trade so you know that the DEA will be unable to nab your source without your help.  You also have always been on great terms with your source; you wouldn't exactly call him a friend but he's always been good to you. What do you do?

Read about game theory and the prisoner's dilemma. It will probably give you the answers that you are looking for. Exceptions don't make the rule either. I guess the only real way to stop someone snitching is the thread of violence. Cost benefit analysis yo!

Laws here you'd never spend 30 years in prison.

Guys who put the wrong fuel in their dinghy off the coast here, got into trouble and needed to be rescued were caught with 1.5 tonnes of pure coke. They got like 25 years so that puts it into perspective.

I'd never get into a situation that could warrant a 30 year stretch. No way.

You know the risks when you start,it's your own problem. You deserve a bullet giving up someone else.

I would rather go to jail. I know it wouldn't be for 30 years tho. I could handle prison a lot better than most would and I don't narc mang.

I wouldn't snitch. I would be prepared for the worst. I would sleep with high end explosives, an m14 and a light uzi and I would rig my house with c4s and setup an alarm that would explode upon entry of house if forced open.

I wouldn't do 30 years, haha fuck that, I'm too impatient, I don't like life THAT much to be in a cage.. gotta at least try and get away :tongue:

I would throw a shit ton of grenades and go out the back in my secret bunker my dealing money made me and hide out for a week or so and then go out at night

then I would go off to south america with millions of $$$ and I would live happy for the rest of my life.

OR... I would be shot, and I dieds. Which is OK for me compared to being in a cage like a monkey for 30 years.

Im pretty scared by the fact that so many people chose to rat.....If you are in the drug game man up to the consequences if you get caught, don't bitch out and rat someone else out.  Especially if this person is a friend, it shouldn't even ever cross your mind.  You got caught-not either man up and go to jail or run from the country.  I know both choices suck ass, but this is the way it is.

If you decide to throw bullshit on someone else and not sacrifice, then :facepalm: at the level of disgust and love.

this sounds like a "supplier" to me. larger status then your run of the mill "average dealer" just like the "source" you are speaking of.

while its easy for me to tell you to NEVER SNITCH :reaper:

If you have a wife and kids, drug dealing might not be your best choice of occupation.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Ratting out your dealer is low. Plus it could have consequences on the street.
PLUS there's no guarantee that you will receive a more reasonable sentence as a result.
