Dubstep is a genre of electronic dance music, originating from Croydon, UK. Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals". It's typically 140-143 BPM, is that the explanation you were looking for..?

Listen to Skream - Stagger. This and the rest of the Skream -Skream! album pretty much represent the high point of dubstep if you ask me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubstep

Somebody posted some songs on the previous page.  Its really bass heavy music though so you wont get the full effect unless your playing it through a decent system. Like at least 10s, the bigger the better for the vibrations.

Since you said you don't like heavy bass though, I wouldn't think you would like it.

Who's your avatar CCR?

Not sayin anyone who can play bass loudly is better than a producer.
Dumbass assumption.
And its all the newer hippy kids that are like omg dubstep is the shit blows me away yada yada just pisses me off.
Anyone with simple shit like frooty loops can make dope songs.
A bass with good amp set up, and some pedals will blow dubstep away any day
Shit that actually takes talent to sound good

Fuck this ignorant attitude

Just because there are bad producers around doesn't mean some producers aren't extremely talented as musicians.

It takes a lot of skill to make really good electronic music.

Most dubstep does suck. The crowd has become too fascinated with the grimy/filthy aspect of it, less with the darkness/atmosphere that makes it cool.

Really good dubstep is very textured and vibe driven, conjures up an image in your mind.

I wouldn't recommend Dubstep to a Pink Floyd fan.  The best thing you could do is not feed the monster and never bring the subject up again.

I play bass guitar and spin records. As a hobby.  Each has its own attributes.

Dubstep is like Jazz to white kids in the 50s. What you haven't heard of this?

It needs to be played through a system for real effect.  Thats it though.

Now open two songs and transition from one to the other or even overlay playing with the volume.

This is my theory for the fascination.

ONE MORE

Dr. Siekadellyk keeps posting examples of the dubstep that I hate, super over distorted wobbles, too much focus on drops and grimyness.
