Staring at peoples facial defects....
    #13568545 -

I have this problem of staring at peoples defects, especially if they are on their face. For example if I am talking to someone that has extremely fucked up snaggle teeth. I my eyes lock onto the teeth and I get hypnotized by them. I try to look at their eyes but the teeth will just keep calling me back. Same goes for any other fucked up facial defect... Ears, massive pimples, acne, ingrown hairs. Anyone else have this problem?

Try to get interested in the person themselves, if possible.  Maybe that will inspire you to look them in the eyes.

Ahahahaha.

Definitely pretty common problem. It's like being told not to think about pink elephants.

I find it is a form of nervous tension manifesting... try relaxing your eyes so that you're not looking at the "person" per se, but are "observing the situation" which is actually a person in an environment. Basically just means relax your eyes so you can see the background in addition to the person.

This will also quiet your mind and make it easier to listen to the person. (especially if being distracted about where you're looking on a person's face is a problem that persists even when dealing with fairly "perfect" looking people--ie, if you have anxiety about "which eye to look at" or similar.)

I actually think girls with crooked teeth and other minor facial defects are sexy. As long as it isnt like the whole face is nasty and she's otherwise pretty...I dont mind a slightly crooked nose, slightly crooked teeth, acne, freckles, gingerism, etc. As long as the eyes arent too close together or too far apart...that just creeps me out.

What else can you do, pretend to look at the ceiling/floor? If someone is confident they won't care, if they are not confident then they might get anxiety attack. Either way you aren't the only one that acts in this natural manner.

Do you notice Mike Tyson's tattoo?

If so, you're guilty of noticing something that looks instinctively out of place.

The biological habit of noticing breaks in continuity or patterns happens
whether you are looking at a voluntary "defect" or a biological one.

Anyone that assails a person for "noticing" any kind of public flaw viewable
on another person is looking for their brain in a cereal bowl.

Mocking or degrading someone? Hell no, that's not acceptable. NEVER.

"Noticing"

Non-crime by any measure.

I study each person I talk to as I talk to them. Its natural, you are looking at body language when a person is speaking. Locking onto the flaw I think is where the society effects come in, like if you saw a wild animal with a scraggle tooth you wouldn't think much, but another human with a scraggle tooth he stands out real good because its not the norm.
