Port Charlotte man smuggled drugs inside his anus into jail
November 18, 2010 - news-press.com

A Charlotte County Sheriff’s Jail officer noticed an inmate brought into the intake-booking area was “walking awkwardly.” A search found he had inserted into his anus tied off latex glove fingers that were filled with Suboxen pills, marijuana and tobacco.

Salvatore James Zambuto, 22, of Port Charlotte, had two felony warrants out and was reportedly going to turn himself in at the jail, the sheriff’s office said. On Wednesday at 3:30 p.m., a CCSO warrant squad detective saw Zambuto in a car driven by Elizabeth Catherine Lafleur, 20, of Punta Gorda. The car passed the detective on U.S. 41 in Port Charlotte, and he saw Zambuto slouch down after being spotted. A traffic stop was made at a restaurant parking lot. Zambuto was arrested on the warrants. The detective observed syringes and spoons in the car. Also found was Xanax pills and another unidentified pill.

Lafleur also was arrested and charged with possession of Xanax.

At the booking area, a corrections officer saw Zambuto “walking awkwardly” when he asked to use the bathroom. Because of his strange behavior, deputies checked and found Zambuto on the floor by the toilet and found three Suboxone pills, and two grams of marijuana, tied in latex glove fingers. A strip search was made and located another latex finger filled with tobacco, the report said.

Zambuto was charged with introduction of contraband into a corrections facility, possession of Suboxen, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, plus the two felony warrants. He remains in jail on no bond.

Zambuto is a felon and has been booked into the Charlotte County Jail seven times. Lafleur posted a $2,500 bond and was released; she has been booked into jail nine times.
