Dubstep
    #12868776 -

Hello all!

I've moved twice now in the past six months.  As soon as I find myself a descent scene I've had to relocate. Now I have a great appreciation for techno, trance, general rave music.  It's been about a month residing in my new city and so far I've only found people into dubstep, which is a whole new beast for me.  (Somehow I missed this trending up in the past 5 years..)

Anywho, what are your thoughts on this still of electronic music?  I'm having a hard time finding the vibe to it.  If I'm going to be rolling and raving I'd prefer to have some faster, more uppity beats.  This dubstep stuff seems to be like a... "depressed kinda vibe?"  Lazy man's techno..

I'm trying to give it a shot now.  Can anyone point me in a good direction to start?  And WTF does a dubstep rave look like?  Doesn't sound like the candykid packed, overflowing energy, and orgasmic young-ins that I've come to expect.

Thoughts?

belac, those examples are much better than the stuff I have recently been introduced to.. at least there's some descent high's in them.  Instead of just bass bass bass bass funky bass bass funky bass... really fast funky bass... it made me a sad panda!

So is dubstep something I may encounter at a rave like function?  I just moved pretty west coast from the midwest.. I'm still stuck seeing dubstep leading to... well, this...

You probably won't see dubstep at a rave unless you go to a dubstep rave. I think sooner or later you'll learn to love that filthy bass.

If you don't like it though, just listen to what you like man.

Lol I was also thinking this for the first time!  This has to be the most non-drug related thing here.  I'm tired of seeing it personally.

BTW - Dubstep sucks balls.  The faster it's gone, the better.

dubstep is one of my most loved and most hated genres of electronic music. i really don't like a lot of the mainstream bands like bassnectar. there are a lot of AWESOME indie bands out there though. case in point:

Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of there being a forum?  I mean, this is the pub.  Not cultivation forum where people are searching for facts over and over.  I'm just chillin and wanted to see what people's thoughts are right now.  Not tryin to be a dick.  Jus' sayin..

There are plenty of places where conversation is already going on, find one of those threads, such as one of the ones below this post.

My ex used to leave me taking care of our little girl to go get fucked up at dubstep lounges and have sex with other men at the end of the night then come back home. I fucking hate dubstep. I like it, but I hate it, too many fucked up memories.

I love dubstep, a lot of people hate it... and I understand why because most of the genre does not sound very good on the ears. Most of dubstep isn't good music, but there are some gems out there that sound like nothing you've ever heard before and it feels good on my ear drums.
Probably 5-10% of dubstep is good.

What area do ya live in now?....

The genre has a very very broad spectrum of sound and many influences. And the genre is most definitely "Blowing up" in popularity, with that comes a whole bunch of horrible generic sounding poorly produced songs, and not so talented producers/DJs....

You really have to search to find the good stuff now-a-days...

I wouldn't call a dubstep event a rave, just as i wouldn't call a psy-trance gathering a rave, sure it has a lot of the same elements of a rave, but it's not. Has a much different vibe....
