Yeah our dude used to drive around in a convertible, shit was so cash. Unfortunately it didn't turn out too well.

Also I don't know if you've been to America before but there's always a large segment of the population that absolutely hates the president. Occasionally someone becomes so inflamed they actually try to kill him. It really is a surprise nobody killed George Bush but I chalk it up to the security. It would just be a big hassle trying to kill a president.

personally, I applaud him for taking his wife out on the town. have you ever had a workaholic dad who was never home? or when he was home was constantly working? I have, it sucks.  Family time is an important part of life whether you're the prez or a bum.

that's fine and dandy, but taking air force one on a little jauntry trip from DC to NYC?  Gimme a break.  You can spend family time without spending thousands and thousands of taxpayer dollars.

Just as a side note, being outside the US, I don't think I've ever heard a bad word said about Obama. I know the opinion polls are a little different towards him inside the US but outside...no one has anything bad to say about him.

as for the cost, it was never released.  the article I quoted above (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/jun/01/curl-cost-nyc-weekend/) estimated $70,000. It also notes that other sources have estimated as low as $24,000.

70k is probably much closer to the real cost.  the lowballs were probably just for the flight itself, not security costs.

yeah, it's really a bit improper.  sure, he can, sure, but that's a lot of money (and I don't think it's out of HIS pocket) to be spending selfishly.  The man's living in probably the single most recognizable and famous inhabited building on earth..  I think you can work up a romantic evening at home given all that.

I've never had kids, but plenty of my friends have, and I know for a fact that sometimes its just nice to get away.  And he made a promise to her while running for office that after the election they would take in a broadway show. As for the cost, like was noted, the Obamas wanted to  take a commercial flight but secret service says not. As for the cost involved with secret service, thats why they are there: To protect the president. you don't hear anybody bitching about the costs involved when any president goes on vacation. Be it to the New England shore, to a ranch in Texas, or to go skiing in Colorado.  Why is it different on a date night :shrug2:? People need to stop looking for controversy over Obama.  I'm not saying he's the best president ever, only time will tell, but seriously, all this BS controversy, people scrutinizing every little miniscule movement and taking everything out of context, that's overrated, produced, media hype.
