Spring onion blues
    #12571852 -

Hi everyone,
My spring onions have been up for weeks now and have been growing away happily in the cold-frame. They are about 9 inches long, but are all completely wilted.  They are still growing, just horizontally. Is this typical or is there something wrong with them?
I have moved them into a cooler spot as I think it may have been too warm for them, but I'm not sure.

Any advice would be great.
Im in the UK by the way, southern.

Cheers!!

If you want them to grow vertically, you'll have to support them. I think commercially they're simply grown very close to each other in high densities, or they are planted and then after a few weeks of growing soil is added around the base, just like in the cultivation of e.g. leeks.

I moved them outside today and the lack of humidity seems to have helped no-end.
I think I'm just being petty, being as it's my 1st time growing spring onions.
I ate a few immature ones today in a salad and they're delicious.
I'm not sure whether they'll make it to full maturity at this rate!!

Yeah, they don't need to be upright and straight. They'll be just as good (or maybe even better) this way
