Sam Adams was a shitty brewer and businessman but a great patriot, having said that... it's not budweiser

A lot of Microbrews and small time distributors make their beer too "hoppy", some of it is good, but it's a fad really.

Bigger and older breweries know how to balance their beer better, like Sam Adams.
Sam Adams is actually really good beer.  I don't particularly like the specialty brews, like the cranberry lambic, but the Regular Sam Adams Boston Lager, Sam Adams Pale Ale, and Sam Adams Boston Ale are really good beers.

I also like Guinness, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Boddingtons Manchester Pub Ale, and the time tested BASS ALE.

And if you really want to get fancy, order a quart of imported barrel-aged Belgium beer, they run about $13 a quart and the recipes were the same exact recipes used to brew beer for Kings and Royalty throughout history.
I can't remember the name of the beer or the company, but if you go to a high end Beer store, and ask them, they'll know what you're talking about.

There are GOOD beers that are recognized by the international beer community, and then there are Fad beers, like most of your microbreweries.

WRONG, hoppiness is not a fad, it is a preference, just like good weed is not a fad, it is a preference.  And one of the reasons the beer is so good over in Belgium is the water.  Water makes a huge difference in the taste of beer.  Try it yourself, brew a homebrew with your house water and 5 gallons of spring water, and see how different they taste.

Sam Adams is a good beer, but for the price, i rather buy a micro that has a higher IBU level than most beers, and there are a lot of Belgian beers out there, such as Chimay that has been brewed the same way for a long time Monks.

So some microbreweries might be a "fad" (i guess you can call it that)but to call most microbreweries "fad beer" is just ignorant.

No, it's not ignorance, it's opinion.

I don't care much for hoppy beers, hence my fondness for wheat beers.

I got the Heavy Sea's Marzen for the Cavs game tonight.

It's hands down the best Lager I have ever drank.

Sam Adams should take the money they spend on marketing and use it to improve their beer, because it's mediocre at best, and for the price one can buy any number of superior brews.

I've had Sam Adams, it's ok.

I tried Dogfishhead at beerfest here last year, it's really good.

I try microbrewery beer often, I hardly can remember all the names. Unibroue is one of my favorite microbreweries, their shit is soo good. La Fin du Monde, Ephemere, Maudite, mmmmm.

Didn't we have a beer thread?... I should have kept that shit going.

Sam is cool. Some are really good. Others are eh.

Mainly it's cool that even the Dive bars in the Boston area
carry 1 or 2 types on tap.

almost every sam adams I've ever had has been one of those "wow, this is really interesting, but it would be better if it was good," type experiences.
Try drinking actual microbrews.  any mass produced beer, save guinness or newcastle, maybe one or two others, is pretty wretched, comparatively.
anyone in the NE has tried dogfish head, I'm sure.  :awesome:  anyone in PA has probably had yards which is also killer.  lagunitas makes some good stuff...
anyway, the point:
stop drinking sam adams.  spend a bit more on the better, smaller brews.  :awebig:

I am a micro/homebrew fan myself, but I really do enjoy Sam Adams Boston Lager.  There is something about the hop profile that really pleases my pallet.  Dogfish head is good too, but my favorite brewery is New Belgium hands down!  I haven't found a New Belgium brew that I didn't enjoy yet.  I love them all.

Here is a list of some more of my favorite breweries:

Summit
Surly
Hacker-Pschorr
Goose Island
Big Sky

My cheap staple beer: Grain Belt Premium

The fire has many things to teach.
But so does the human experience.. which is like fire, sometimes you just need to stoke the coals and sometimes you just need to add a log or reposition the log matrix. But a well built fire will be much more self-sustaining than a poorly built one, and they all need love to grow. And don't fuck around or your might burn yourself. Must always respect the fire. - Shroomism

I just bought a 6 pack of dogfish head Raison D'Etre and a bottle of
arrogant bastard, since I've never had them I'm taking your word for it
that dogfish head is good beer

I've been looking and so far none of the bottles of beer I've bought
have the alcohol content, I guess the state doesnt want me selecting
premium beers based on how drunk they'll get me
