Wrong.




almost every sam adams I've ever had has been one of those "wow, this is really interesting, but it would be better if it was good," type experiences. 
Try drinking actual microbrews.  any mass produced beer, save guinness or newcastle, maybe one or two others, is pretty wretched, comparatively. 
anyone in the NE has tried dogfish head, I'm sure.  :awesome:  anyone in PA has probably had yards which is also killer.  lagunitas makes some good stuff... 
anyway, the point:
stop drinking sam adams.  spend a bit more on the better, smaller brews.  :awebig:

Or you could be pimp and make your own delicious beer. My friend makes his own and its god damn one of the best dark beers I've ever had :drooling:

Care to suggest some dark beers?

PS. Big manufactured beer normally sucks, so this is not surprising.

Meh, Sam Adams is okay. Nothing to write home about, though. I did really enjoy their summer wheat beer last year though.

try the stuff from Victory too. they are from eastern PA. Golden Monkey is :awesome:

Penn Brewery in Pittsburg is good too. their heffe is amazing.

Dogfish Head is the shit.  We've got it down here in the SE and I'll be damned if the 90 minute IPA isn't one of the best beers I've tried.

I agree microbrews are great, but every beer drinker's gotta have a staple beer thats somewhat affordable. For me it's Yuengling. Or if I'm really broke it's Coors light.

You are wrong, perhaps you just don't like lagers but Sam Adams makes a damn fine lager and their Noble Pils was amazing when it was still being released here early in the year.

Oh and if you mention Lagunitas you have to mention Stone and Sierra Nevada in the same breath because both of those Cali breweries are just as good if not better than Lagunitas.

I was about to bash this thread and Sam Adams to pieces than I noticed you knew what you were talking about.

My favorite breweries in no specific order are

Dogfish Head

Southern Tier

Founders

Heavy Seas

Bells (Mm Hopslam)

And for cheap beer I always go with Pabst Blue Ribbon

QFT. I bought a sixer of Golden Monkey last time I went to visit Newbie. Not only is it delicious, but it's 9.5% ABV. That sixer got me pretty toasty.

6 packs of Sam Adams here is 8.99 and you can get dogfish head or new belgium for that price, so i dont buy sam adams, but it isnt bad beer

Bells, Samuel Smith(breakfast beer FTMFW), Victory, all good shit. 
sierra nevada has some really good stuff, but some of their beer doesn't do it for me.  stone has some good stuff too, but a lot of it is overdone and turns out horrible.
sam adams seasonals have always been really unimpressive to me.  the summer ale is weak and has a pretty bland taste, the winter lager is pretty bad too.  their octoberfest sucks compared to ayinger's octoberfest or dogfish head's amazing punkin ale or many others. 
dogfish head is nuts with their limited beers.  stouts and dark ales from 14%-30%....fucking nuts, but still amazing stuff. 

to be fair I'm all down for yuengling or even miller or whatever when I'm poor, but I usually spring for the good stuff.  I'd much rather spend $3-4 more and get a 4 pack of 90 minute IPA instead of drinking 8-10 yuenglings or whatevers and getting the same amount of alcohol with a vastly inferior taste.

A lot of Microbrews and small time distributors make their beer too "hoppy", some of it is good, but it's a fad really.

Bigger and older breweries know how to balance their beer better, like Sam Adams.
Sam Adams is actually really good beer.  I don't particularly like the specialty brews, like the cranberry lambic, but the Regular Sam Adams Boston Lager, Sam Adams Pale Ale, and Sam Adams Boston Ale are really good beers. 

I also like Guinness, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Boddingtons Manchester Pub Ale, and the time tested BASS ALE.

And if you really want to get fancy, order a quart of imported barrel-aged Belgium beer, they run about $13 a quart and the recipes were the same exact recipes used to brew beer for Kings and Royalty throughout history.
I can't remember the name of the beer or the company, but if you go to a high end Beer store, and ask them, they'll know what you're talking about.

There are GOOD beers that are recognized by the international beer community, and then there are Fad beers, like most of your microbreweries.

any of the fruity type of lambic style beers are terrible but a really good, simple lambic or a gueuze style brew will put you in a whole other world. if done the right way, both should be aged in barrels.. however thats not always the case..

i dont think that microbrews are a fad at all. however, i do agree that some are just too hoppy for me. the Victory Prima Pils and Dogfish Head 90 Min IPA comes to mind.. they arent bad, just not usually my thing.

sam adams, to me, was always just ok. theyve never blown me away with something that was holycrapawesome.. although the (now discontinued) White Ale came close.

if you like that then check out River Horse's Tripel Horse. its a little bit more full bodied but similar.

the River Horse brewery is just north of Trenton.

EDIT: the Tripel Horse is also around 10% ABV
