SAVANNAH, GA (April 14, 2010) The Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team (CNT) opened an investigation back in 2007 into a suspected drug organization operating in both Chatham and Bryan County.  Agents believed the group was involved in the Trafficking, Distribution and Sale of Cocaine and Marijuana as well as being involved or linked to various violent crimes in the community.  Agents say the operation which lasted 16 months resulted in the arrests of approximately 35 people, large seizures of cocaine and marijuana, various weapons, 4 vehicles, approximately $119,000 and the execution of numerous search warrants.  Included among the search warrants was a Savannah clothing business allegedly used as a store front for the organization. Three leaders of the organization 32-year-old Chris Jermone Robbins of Garden City, 30-year-old Jemond Mbwana Burke of Pooler and 36-year-old Ferrell Wayne Hull of Savannah have all pled guilty to trafficking cocaine.  Robbins and Hull were sentenced to 25 years in prison, Burke to 20 years.  Two others arrested during the investigation are still pending further court proceedings.

Agents say that since the appointment of Director Roy Harris in 2007, CNT has shifted its focus from short term investigations to long term investigations involving large drug organizations.  As a result, investigations have led to larger seizures of illegal narcotics, assets and arrests of drug organization leaders. Agents believe these longer term investigations are resulting in the dismantling of these organizations which makes a greater impact in the Savannah area.
CNT works closely with the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office who has two Assistant District Attorney’s assigned to CNT. This appointment allows agents to work closely with the ADA’S on a daily basis and allows the ADA’S to be involved with the CNT case during its entire prosecution.  CNT agents say they are able to work with the ADA to ensure each defendant is properly charged thus resulting in the maximum sentencing.
