It doesn't, but the vast majority of good metal is that way, with few exceptions.
Also it depends highly upon which genre of metal you like, there are many different kinds.

Yeah actually I have a whole huge fucken thread dedicated to metal, it not very current and is missing some bands but there's enough in there to keep you busy for a few weeks probably..

They seem to be a hit or miss live for some reason, I've seen them twice (completely sober) and they were great :shrug:

I do think the venue has alot to do with seeing a band like them though, if the acoustics suck then a rhythmic band is gonna sound off

They sound precise on the Link Alive DVD

"live" dvds are recorded from direct not by acoustics so this may not be how it sounded to the people in said venue.

fully aware, but picking up the direct feed from playing "on the fly" so to speak still shows that they're precise about their performances.
