Skins next year?

So, Redskins are laying low during free agency, looking to fill some spots in the draft I guess.  Any thoughts on how they'll do next year? Personally under Shanahan I think they'll do alright.  Next year or so of course will be rebuilding years, but I still think we have the talent and the know-how to go 9-7 at least.

I do like the move to sign Larry Johnson to a 3 year deal. I think he still has gas in the tank if he can manage to keep himself out of trouble

LJ definitely has some gas left. And I think/hope he's old enough to know better now.
Between LJ and Portis we've got a great backfield but I'd like to see some young talent get in there, and learn off the two of them, that way in a couple of years when they both retire we'll still have a good experienced backfield rather than rookies.

Ehh, it's not too bad. Close to $4m  a year for a potential starter isn't bad, especially in an uncapped year.

I'm ready for next season.  Morale is low here in Norfolk.  Not that many people come out for games anymore (skins still have the dominant fanbase down here).

We need some pep in our step

well there my team but who the hell knows how they will play. every year i am excited going in and get let down. i do think they need a change at qb though. never liked campbell. thought he was a bum from day one.

I hear ya' on that one.

I don't like campbell either.  It's such a tough situation because he knows how to throw the ball, but he can't think on his feet.  You can tell when he's pressured he gets overwhelmed and always makes fucking horrible decisions.  Decent throws, but horrible decisions.

If you're going to have a guy step in for Portis, the last thing u want is an older, slower and less productive running back.

The man hasn't had a productive season since 2006,  and even since then he's had so much tread and wear, he doesn't look anything like the power back he used to be.


Stupidest signing so far this free agency.

I think you are being a little over critical speaking about a 2nd string RB. Granted if Portis gets hurt for a prolonged amount of time and LJ has to get the bulk of the carries, I think they will be hurting. But he isnt being signed to be the primary ball carrier. I dont know many teams who wouldnt at least look at LJ as being a solid 2nd stringer :shrug:

How many back up RBs are  there who get paid 3.5 million base salary?

Who dont the Redskins overpay? Ricky Williams also makes the base salary.

I think Reggie Bush is the most overpaid RB in the league at something around 6.5 mil :shrug:

http://bit.ly/c2eadx - little dated article, before the LJ signing but I like the direction of it. especially the second page.  In response to Shanahan's playoff success (1-4), in the playoffs, its the teams job to show up. granted the coach is the head of the team, but he's not the one out on the field. IMO good coaching gets you to the playoffs with a mediocre team. but mediocre teams don't win in the playoffs against good teams. I did the stats research. they played in 5 playoff games over 4 seasons. 2 of their 3 losses they were the first wildcard (2000 and 2004). the other loss (2003) they were the second wildcard. For their one win (2005) they were a first round bye, who went on to lose to the Steelers, who subsequently won the superbowl. I would like to see how he does again with a divisional team rather than a wildcard team.

read a lot of mock drafts, most of which are saying Colt McCoy or Jimmy Clausen, both of which sound like great picks. But I agree more with this guy: http://bit.ly/cJbPpQ and also think thats the route that we'll end up going.

as for LJ, only time will tell, I guess.
