returning old items to wal mart
    #11838713 -

My friend has a pressure cooker from Walmart and he is wondering how easy it would be buy a new pressure cooker (its the same one) and return the old one in the new box with receipt a few days later and say it did something weird after using it a couple of times and that he wants a refund. Its been used about a dozen times, and as you may know, they look pretty worn after a few uses. It cleaned up pretty well with a brillo pad and some elbow grease though. Do they take your name or anything when you return it (assuming its not paid with using a CC)? The reason he wants to return it is because it ran dry a couple days ago and he doesn't want to put himself at risk.

i don't need any moral lessons here, although I doubt there are many walmart sympathizers here :p

Thank you!!

Paid with cash, have a receipt, they won't give a shit to tell the difference... as long as the box is in good shape.. not like there's a serial #.

I've done it before. It's not like a Mom & Pop store where they'd repackage it or spend time contacting the manufacture.

Fuck, Wal-Mart and some clothing stores destroy their clothing before throwing it away; instead, they could be giving it to homeless people. But they don't want to lose potential profits.

Get your "friend's" new PC.

I did this with a midi keyboard (~$100) and bestbuy. My old one broke so I bought a new one at bestbuy, replaced the new one in the package with the old one
then returned it.

and it worked :awesome:

thats pretty fucked up to return a "dangerous" product that will end up in the hands of someone's mom or grandmom and potentially explode and render them blind, retarded, or otherwise disabled just so you can save a few bucks...

I'm actually doing this in a few days with a water filter. that faucet started sprayign water everywhere and weve had it for like half a year now. I just bought a new one and it works great. so in a little while im going to go in without a receipt and just tell them after like two weeks it just started spraying every where.

fuck walmart haha

Yeah man, you're soooo right. Oh well, at least its not me, right?

Oh wait, if you weren't already retarded or "otherwise disabled" you would realize that Walmart doesn't have elves in the back polishing up returned products of this nature. Walmart or the manufacturer takes the hit, not grandma's forehead.

wtf are you talking about? and then you call me retarded and disabled when your shit makes less sense than mine?

ive heard of broke xbox's making it back to the shelves, ive heard of broke ps3's making it back to the shelves, all kinds of shit makes it back

so i dunno what your point was about elves or wtf you were drooling about, but its VERY possible your shit will end up back on the shelf.  and maybe walmarts or the manufactors insurence will take a hit...but only if someones mom or grandma does first you lowlife.

If he tells Walmart that the PC doesn't work, they won't send it into the back of the shop and fix it, they will just toss it and either take the hit or send the manufacturer a bill. Either way, the PC that he returns for being "broken" isn't going back onto the shelves.

but he prettied it up, its going to look like nothing is wrong with it, its not like it has any electronic parts on it. most likely they will just think he's an idiot that didn't know how to use it, or was returning it because he really didn't want it in the first place

the bottom line here is that the op knows what he did, he knows the possible dangers, joe blow at walmart won't know any of this.

I prettied it up? Are you two years old? Walmart would never put it back on the shelf. By your own logic, that means anybody returning it because it was legitimately broken should feel guilty about returning it. If you're going to make a moral argument, at least have it make sense, like this last poster for example.

And to him I say: would it really be such a bad thing if Walmart couldn't compete with local stores anymore because people like me choose to dick over Walmart instead of the little guy? But really though, I've never stolen anything in my life. There are a few people who can get welfare checks every month just because of the taxes I pay. Just let me have this one moment, please?
P.S. I'm not a junkie

they would never, ever put a pressure cooker back on the shelves that someone brought back and reported as broken.  hell, if they did, i'd want to be the poor sap who gets injured by it.  that's a huuuuuuuge lawsuit right there.

you said you cleaned it up, i said you prettied it up, wtf is your problem?  does your butt hurt or something?

you never mentioned anything about telling them it being broken in your first post, when i first glanced over it my initial thought was you planned to return it as new, but then i reread it and seen that you was going to say it

"did something weird" w/e the fuck that means, and who knows how the fuck they will interpret that.

but i have read accounts as stated above, of people getting used xboxs and ps3's from walmart before

so who knows what walmart would do if someone came in acting weird, and gave a weird excuse about how his pressure cooker was acting weird, when it looked brand spanking new.

i mean honestly, how fucking stupid does it sound to walk in and say your frying pan is cooking your food weird...it sounds straight down syndromeish and you know it.

we KNOW that used products have the potential to end up on store shelves, we don't know what asshats like you will actually tell them, we don't know walmart policy, we don't know the walmart employee's, we don't know the manufactor, it does INDEED have the potential to end up back on the store floor at some point intime having been no more than glanced over, yet you will have known what you did to it from FIRST HAND experience.

and if you gave them your first hand experience, id venture to guess the outcome would be much different even if they did still accept the return.

What a sad pathetic asshole your "friend" is. Hopefully he'll be involved in a fatal accident on the way to Walmart.

No, they probably won't even look at it, you just tell them what is wrong with it as long as you have the receipt they take it.
