A combination of a LONG horrific past with todays science and understanding makes a lot of people angry that something so fucking stupid still exists.

There's just lots of people here who see through misinformed stupidity. And some people voice their misinformed, stupid ideas under a banner of Christianity. This Robertson person just pays bad lip service to Christianity, IMO.

I gotta agree with you on that.

I see a lot of people on here bash christians for things the bible specifically preachs against so I can't be mad at anyone on the shroomery for hating :shrug: Theres a lot of people who claim christianity and they've never cracked the good book once but they spread their own ideas of what should be in it.

I was acting as though being critical at all is "bashing"

My mom is the kind of Christian I can stand. Open minded, and BARELY religious.
I'm sure some extremists would call her weak etc, well they're stupid.


Though to the guy that face palmed Chubba comment, sure it was rough. But god dammit, Christianity(as much as I love my mother/friends of mine) is more bad than good IMO. And that's not juvenile. It's not immature to find blind faith, intolerance towards gays, ignorance of basic science, or the subjugation of women to be a problem, or STUPID.

Not all Christians take it as seriously. But I agree with Sam Harris that the moderates give tacit support to the extremists.  I may like a lot of those moderates. Bill Mickibben and Cornel West come to mind, but over all I think Christianity is one of the most harmful religions. It's soft and fluffy looking if you don't put in any effort.
Get educated and it's a whole different story.

I wonder why people lose their faith while enrolled in higher education.

Considering Christianity would be just another backwater myth if it wasn't for him.


Also, suicide bomber or not, plenty of people have detonated bombs. Palestinians are in a desperate situation living under an absolutely brutal occupation regardless of religious beliefs.(Not excusing religious based warfare, just acknowledging the pain and suffering for context of the over all picture)

And there are plenty of Christians in jail for violent crimes. In fact, non religious people don't seem to end up there in nearly the same numbers(and before someone "pounces" ya, I mean after adjusting for population, of course :lol:

Hell violence wasn't my main criticism, but if that's what you want to go with sure.
And hey, it's never incited violence or hatred.

You have a point. Personally I wouldn't call myself a christian if I blew up a building but some people are a little more crazy :shrug: It's stuff like this that will end christianity altogether.
