Fucking Jaw Clicking/Popping

So When I was younger I had a Herbst appliance which basically pulls your jaw forward to get rid of a overbite. It pulls it so far forward your bottom and top front teeth are right on top of each other.

Because of this now the joints padding swelled up since the jaw was barely pressing on it and now I have TMJ where it pops in and out in and out and is annoying as fucking SHIT. When I eat food where there's any resistance my jaw cracks every fucking bite. This aggravates it and makes it sore

It was a totally unnecessary appliance and fucked up my jaw. God damn stupid dentist, he did it because when he worked on my back teeth they were close to my throat and made me gag. SO THE FUCK WHAT, I'd rather gag for a bit once a year than have my jaw cracking every minute. I'm very mad at the dentist and my mom who agreed to it without doing any research. I googled herbst appliance TMJ and it seems like ALOT of people have this problem because of this stupid fucking appliance. And to top it off after I got it off they wanted me to get braces AND MY TEETH ARE STRAIGHT AS FUCK.

It makes me think they're greedy and just want to do unnecessary shit for the health insurance money.

Anyone else have this problem? Or a dumb medical expert who wants you to have unnecessary procedures?

me too man, and i fucking hate it. 

i didn't have some unnecessary procedure done by the dentist or anything, it just started happening a few years back...my dentist says i might be biting down hard in my sleep or something.  basically he doesnt know what is causing it to start in my adulthood.

it doesnt click every bite i take, but a lot of times when i'm chewing something harder or with more resistance it does.  it hurts sometimes, but mostly its annoying and attention-grabbing.  i have nice teeth but have never had braces or anything so, oh well i guess...i've come to the realization that i'm just gonna have to live with it...:shrug:

I have stopped chewing gum and eating taffy since my TMJ started

I didnt have the device though, mine just developed on its own

I googled TMJ relief and got some good stuff, my jaw isn't really aligned but you can make a conscious effort to reduce the discomfort by opening and closing your jaw properly, you can feel your joint and when you open and close you probably notice they don't move or feel symmetrical. Working on making it symmetrical seems to help. The teeth on the left side meet up before the right side so my jaw angles a tiny bit to the shorter side. Next time I have a dentist appointment where they put shit on your teeth that needs to be grinded down a bit I'll be able to have them correct it so my jaw sits level.
