new tattoo question.
    #11702897 -

so i just got a new tattoo... dali melting clocks painting on my side... 3 inches below my armpit to my love handle in length...

anyways, since i am sober these days... running... sweating out stress is like the most important thing in my life.... i dont think i can go more than a few days without intense exercise...

also, it is me and my girlfriend's 3 month anniversary soon and i know she will want to have sex... and we're usually both drenched after 20 minutes... she can't cum unless it's longer than 30...

if i have to exercise, what can I do to minimize any damage?

Thanks for helping out a n00b.

i think you should be fine, just follow the artist's cleaning instructions and if you are being more active/sweating just clean it more.  i have a nice one on my left side/ribs and i worked construction during the healing time.  keep that lotion on it so it doesn't scab up too much.

Also, of your girlfriend cleaning your tattoo with a wet cloth that she's clasping in her teeth.

well the reason i didn't post the picture is because it isn't completely finished yet... the artist is older... and couldn't tattoo past 4 hours straight... I could of sat there all night... i just got back from the parlor.. it's still bandaged up.

there's still another two hours to go of work to finish up the details and the shading.. but it looks great so far.

and im not going to post a pic of girlfriend because is a big girl, and i know people will make stupid comments about her weight.

Honestly, my close friends are tattoo artist and the best advice i can give is this: dont listen to what anyone here says. go talk to your tattoo artist, tell him your concerns and let him answer any questions you have. everyone knows what they are talking about, everyone knows whats best. no, go talk to your artist.

You claim your close friends are  tattoo artists then proceed to not give any helpful advice.:dudewtf:

Anyways, if you absolutely have to sweat then at least wait a few days and make sure you wash it after you sweat.

if you read what i wrote then youd know that I gave the best advice here, go talk to the tattoo artist. I've seen amazing tattoos leave the shop, only to come back 2 days later and them worried about it cuz its all red and bumpy and whatnot. And guess what, it looks like that because they listened to their friends and put random shit on it.

Listen to your tattoo artist, nobody else. That's what my advice is. They've been doing this for years, it is their job. Don't listen to some person who has 1 tattoo tell you what to do.

Go talk to the artist

oh, and almostascoolas, what makes you an expert on this topic? What makes your opinion a good one that someone else should listen to when it comes to tattoos? Do you know more than his tattoo artist? How many tattoos do you have? How many tattoos have you had to give instructions on for healing purposes?

I think the point that AlmostAsCoolAs was trying to make was that all tattoo artists should know the answers to these questions and the answer shouldnt waiver between tattoo artists; and considering that youre such close friends with tattoo artists it would probably be much easier for you to make a quick call. If anything you should be able to verify those answers from multiple tattoo artists.

To the OP, I asked a similar question to my artist when I got my second tat and he basically just said to protect it when possible but not to worry too much, said he went surfing an hour or two after getting his sleeve done and it turned out just fine...

i was afriad to even sleep on my tatts after they were done but that turned out okay too. god damn the itch though!

i mean, do what you normally do but if the tattoo area gets messy just clean it up. it'll be fine.

I don't get why people get so complicated with tats.
1 hr and google will usualy give you the best cross-referenced answers. You should be smart enough to read through enough to know what is good and what isn't... it is a permanent piece of art on your body, afterall.

- never rub
- use a light unscented body lotion that does not contain bee's wax, at least 3 times per day.
- you don't need any antibacterial ointments, unless an infection develops.
- keep it dry while you shower, dont let the scabs soak. Clean it with water and soap lightly.
- dry right away, with a clean towel by dabbing dry, never rubbing.

Nice man.

Not all artists say the same thing though. What my tattoo artist does with his clients is wraps them with saran wrap when its done, tape it down. No paper towel. Tells you to leave it until night. That night take a shower, clean it good. There will be a thick layer of... goop... get all that off. Re-wrap it with saran wrap over night, do the same thing in the morning. The next morning is when you use an ointment he supplies or tells them what to get.

The saran wrap acts almost like a layer of skin in that it helps heal the tattoo faster, keeps all that stuff in there (that you clean after), and it helps. It's decreased healing time from about 2 weeks to 8-10 days. I can vouche for that.
