DAP Bondex Plaster of Paris
    #11305541 -

I was at the hardware store and saw this box of PoP. It says that it contains Calcium Sulfate, Calcium Carbonate and silica. If I need to I will get some drywall and use it, but if a person were to use this when prepping grain jars before PCing would it be beneficial because of the calcium carbonate? I mean would the calcium carbonate help keep your jars free of contams by raising the PH in the jar?

Mushroom mycelium colonizes acidic substrate faster than non-acidic substrate.

However molds prefer acidic as well. Once the bulk substrate is colonized, it's not much of a concern. I do not worry about pH unless I'm using a casing. IMHO

Add a pinch. That first one is gypsum. The others won't matter either way to a grain jar.
Don't add so much that it gets weird.

You make it all possible. Doesn't it feel good?

The ingredients list has the calcium carb and the silica listed. I am not mixing this myself. I wasnt gonna add much just a bit like RR shows in the video. I think that and experiment might be needed. Just to see the dif side by side.

I should have mentioned that I wouldnt be adding the PoP out of the box. I have mixed it with water and let it harden and dry. I am going to crush it and then add it like gypsum. I was told that it chemically changes after it get rehydrated.

Oh, you don't have to do all that. It's going to get hydrated anyway. Just sprinkle a pinch in teh jar.
