Also keep in mind you dont have to play all those notes ..esp if you are playing with a bass player. If you are playing with a bass or a keyboard player you can leave out the 1 or leave out the 5th - niether is really adding much. Unless you are talking powerchords or metal. Make sure you are geting the correct third in there. But play around with it. Straight across, all 6 strings, bar chords are often overkill.

Bar chords are a must unless you like moving your whole finger placement around for everynote. They usually follow some type of chord/chord variation.
