Oregon Chanterelle Mother Lode!

What a great day! I think I only fell down twice...I've been hunting the same grounds this month and keep going a little further into the bush and today I hit paydirt. It got to the point where I couldn't not stumble into another patch. Anyway here's the photo recap.
A lovely coral
Evidence of the logging history of this area. This cable is probably from an old steam donkey around the turn of the century. It ran underground and over trees for 100 feet or so. Then I got distracted by the chanterelles.
These were in the sun just begging to be photographed
Unknown to me just thought it looked cool
A chanterelle with a doug fir needle top hat
A nice small chant patch
My favorite pic of the day...these guys said they wanted to come home with me
The new mother lode zone I came upon. Lighting was bad so I didn't take too many (blurry) photos. Too busy picking mushrooms!
A primo Sparassis crispa, first I have found so this was a great surprise!
The bounty in my trusty kreel
Just the chanterelles. I only picked the best specimens and left about 70% of the mushrooms to keep doing their thing.
The cauliflower

Oh such a great feeling it is when you walk up on a giant group of chanterells.
I found a giant patch of sulfur shelf in Tillamook last week. So tasty.

I must keep reminding myself of this. I must keep reminding myself of this. I must keep reminding myself of this. I must keep reminding myself of this.

Isn't the smell of fresh chanterelles amazing? The patch will smell great too, especially after a rain.
Nice finds! They look good. How are you going to cook em?

Tonight, sauteed with some butter and garlic on bread or something. We usually make a basil pesto/bacon/chanterelle pizza but I think the dough is too old at this point. Sometimes we do a stir fry or pasta.
Can't wait to taste the Sparassis crispa! Anyone have a good way to prepare them?

Sometimes I smell them first then start poking around and I'll be damned, most of the time my nose was right!

Thanks Koraks! I'm getting all excited about the prospect of truffle hunting on the land I've been hunting. Seems just right...replanted doug fir 15-30 years old. Never tried before since it's so hard to find mushrooms that are above the ground!
Any PNW trufflers on the Shroomery? I'd be interested to hear some truffle hunting stories and if they were successful. I think the truffle season is right around the corner!!

Beautiful! Where'd you get the basket for your book-bag(if you can't say on the forum PM me please )!? I need to get one of those, so I don't damage specimens or dirty them more with my pockets.

The creel was a gift from my gf. This is the same one I have http://www.ramseyoutdoor.com/product/pid-5329/g-416/index.aspx?utm_source=VersaFeed&utm_medium=VersaFeed&utm_content=Field++Stream+Wicker+Creel&utm_campaign=base
I rig it up with a couple straps conveniently located on the backpack. btw, pockets are no place for mushrooms.

Trust me I know haha, I just hate carrying plastic bags around with mushrooms. People often get the wrong idea as I'm a young male with long hair hanging out in the woods haha.
Thanks for that, I'll get one next season for sure.

Beautiful mushrooms and great photos! I miss Chanterelles. I haven't found any since I moved away from the California coast. I should look on the west slope of the Sierra where there are lots of Oak trees.

very cool you found some chanterelles...i went towards the coast this past Wednesday and found nothing, but i did score a few rather huge lobster mushrooms growing around some short stemmed russulas....so that was exciting...i am looking for basic terrain to look for chanterelles in, ...i read below someone found some decent ones in the mt hood area....? really/....?

I'd call that a windfall too. i'd be happy to find half that many. I've only found 5 chanterelles here in virginia beach.
